In preparation for Hogwarts Legacy’s upcoming launch in February 2023, more information is released regarding gameplay features, specific locations and other important details that’ll help us progress through the game. One tidbit highlighted in the second Gameplay Showcase is the Room of Requirement and the Vivarium, both essential rooms for getting potions and upgrading equipment. While it’s not immediately apparent just how useful they are, we’re here to dive into what you can do once you find them. What is the Vivarium in Hogwarts Legacy?
The Vivarium is a room in Hogwarts Legacy that you access directly from the Room of Requirement. As you build up your Room of Requirement and begin upgrading your equipment, you’ll find various crafting materials that come from animals. This is where the Vivarium comes in, which you can enter using the central doorway in the Room of Requirement.

Upon entering this room, it’ll expand into a massive space where you can manage your beasts. While you won’t start with many right away, you’ll encounter more throughout your overworld adventures. You’ll have to take care of your animals, and in return, they’ll provide you with crafting materials, such as furs and feathers, to upgrade your equipment. While some upgrades are as simple as increasing base defense and offensive stats, others add entirely new traits to improve your fighting capabilities.
Another feature of the Vivarium is its customization options. Much like the Room of Requirement, you can change the Vivarium to match your personal preferences by customizing various structures, adding new buildings and even changing the biome. In short, while this area is primarily used to care for animals, you can make it as visually appealing as you’d like.
