What is the Best Marksman Rifle in COD Modern Warfare 2?

Quickscoping on steroids.

As casual as the weapons may be, Marksman Rifles are some of the most powerful guns that players can pick up in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. If these rifles were allowed in competitive formats, then we would likely see half the players running the specialized class.

Marksman Rifles sit somewhere in between snipers and assault rifles in terms of utility on the battlefield. For every player that loves how these weapons feel, there is one that can’t stand another kill cam from a marksman. Out of all the options in the class though, there can only be one that is the best, and we’re going to cover that just below in our MW2 guide.

COD MW2 – What is the Best Marksman Rifle?

There are six different options that players can choose from in the Modern Warfare 2 Marksman Rifle category. Three of them act as bolt or lever-action rifles while the other three are semi-automatic. They are all one-shot kills to the head and can pack a massive punch to the chest. However, the bolt-actions clearly outclass the semi-automatics.

With that said, the Lockwood MK2 also gets left behind because it simply doesn’t do enough damage on a consistent basis. That leaves the SP-R 208 and the SA-B 50. These two are incredibly similar and even come from the same tree. But in the end, the SA-B 50 wins the title of best Marksman Rifle in COD Modern Warfare 2.

What separates the last two bolt-actions is speed and accuracy. The SP-R 208 has less recoil and slightly more accuracy, which doesn’t matter here. Both weapons are bolt action rifles that have nearly the same damage as a sniper with far more ADS speed and a much higher fire. Out of every bolt-action in the game, the SA-B has the best handling, comparable ADS speed to the SP-R, and double the ammo capacity. This is an easy pickup for any fan of the class in MW2.
