How To Play With Friends

When it comes to playing with friends in Valheim, you can either join them in the world they’ve created or have them join your world.

Co-op is supported for 2-10 players, meaning you and one other friend can play together, or you can play in a world that has nine other people in it.

As long as your friend(s) own a copy of Valheim on Steam, you’ll have the ability to play together. If you’ve been playing the game solo and want to join a friend’s game, you’ll need to do the following steps:

How To Join a Friend

  • Select your character, then press start
  • Click the Join Game tab
  • Make sure the Friends option is selected at the bottom
  • Select friend’s world you wish to join
  • Enter the password your friend has provided you

If you want people to join your server whether they be friends or strangers, from the “Start Game” screen you’ll need to make sure the following requirements are met:

How To Invite Friends/Strangers

  • Select the world you’ve created that you’d like people to join you in
  • At the bottom right, select Start Server then Community Server
  • Create a password for your server
  • Then hit Start

It’s as simple as that. If you don’t have a friend online to play with and you’re really itching to play co-op (and perhaps make new friends) you can switch from the Friends option at the bottom to Community and browse through a list of servers from other people.

Note that as of right now, all Community servers will be password protected. To successfully join Community servers you’ll need to be “invited” in the sense that someone will need to tell you the world name and the password.

If you want other people to join your world, the same rule applies where you’ll need to share your world name and password information. The best way to do this is by utilizing the following resources:

Valheim is currently in Early Access, so it’s possible that joining Community servers will be made easier in the future. If that happens, we’ll be sure to jump back in and update this guide accordingly.
