How To Unlock Comics SFX & Film Style Animation Effect In Spider-Man 2

I wish Nicolas Cage voiced him, though.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 isn’t afraid to show its love to the comics and animated films that have come before it, so the included SFX action pack and visual effects are a must-have. But, how do you unlock them, and where do you activate them?

How To Use Visual Effects & Comics SFX in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

If you’re looking to unlock the Visual Effects and Comics SFX Action packs, you’ll just need to continue leveling up your Spider-Men. On top of unlocking plenty of skills for them to use, once you reach Level 22 and unlock the Spider-Man Noir outfit, you can start playing around with this visual style. What, exactly, does it do, you may be asking yourself. Well, it’s going to slow down character animations so they match more in line with films like Into The Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse, and the Comics SFX will give you the hokey BOOM, BAM, THWP bubbles when you attack foes.

However, if you’re not a fan of the Spider-Man Noir suit, but want to see this effect emulated on another costume, you can change the settings to allow you access to it. Simply pause the game with the Options button, go to Settings, and then Visual Settings. You’ll find toggle switches for Film Style Animation and Comic SFX near the High Contrast Options, and you can use them with every suit in the game.

As you can see in the video above, the more choppy animation style really lends itself well to the game and gives it a nice cinematic feel. While I’m playing in Fidelity mode here, you can see the effect across all graphical settings. It’s a great homage to the excellent films and lends a bit of style and flair to the otherwise very serious tone of the game. Plus, the combat effects are hilarious to see, as giant comic bubbles will pop up when landing hits.
