How to Open Wardwoven Chests in Diablo 4

Make Zoltun proud

For the best chance at some Magical Stones in Diablo 4 Season 3, you want to open up Wardwoven Chests in The Vaults of Sanctuary. Prying them open isn’t as easy as containers from the past though, so it’s important to enter each dungeon with Zoltun’s knowledge.

How to Open Wardwoven Chests in Diablo 4 Season 3

To open a Wardwoven Chest, you need to leave your Zoltun’s Warding stacks intact and spend them at the end of a Vault. If you manage to retain enough of your stacks from the blessing, both chests in the treasure room will be yours to claim. However, reaching the end of a Vault with as many stacks as possible is no easy task.

Any time you take damage from one of the many traps in The Vaults, you lose a stack of Zoltun’s Warding. Considering you pick up the blessing at the start of the dungeon, you can quickly lose your stacks if you aren’t careful with your movement. Many of the traps are fresh in Season 3, so it will take some time to learn how they function.

Opening Wardwoven Chests with Stacks of Zoltun’s Warding:

  • Minor Wardwoven Chest (WT1, WT2): 1 Stack of Warding
  • Standard Wardwoven Chest (WT3): 4 Stacks of Warding
  • Major Wardwoven Chest (WT4): 10 Stacks of Warding
  • Note: Malphas Chests require more Stacks of Warding

To get access to the Zoltun’s Warding blessing, you need to allocate Pearls of Warding at the statue of Zoltun Kulle. Spending Pearls of Warding will give you 10 stacks per item spent. If you can manage to beat the Vault Boss and reach the end of the Vault without losing too many stacks, you will have plenty of stones that make the effort worth the trouble.

Each Vault dungeon will have one reward chest and one Wardwoven Chest, but that’s only the beginning. Each World Tier for Nightmare Vaults increases the number of chests up to three, along with the standard Nightmare reward. Season of the Construct is centered around grinding out these Vaults, and in the end, you will have all the Tuning Stones you need.

How to Get Pearls of Warding in Diablo 4

To earn Pearls of Warding, you can kill Heralds of Malphas in Arcane Tremors, or you complete more Vaults. Any Herald of Malphas can be summoned with three Elemental Cores and 50 Shattered Stone at a Brazier. Upon defeat, they have a chance to drop some pearls along with Tuning or Governing Stones.

Any time you complete a Vault and open the final chest, there is also a chance for pearls to drop. That means you can grind the easier Vaults and save your Pearls of Warding for when you want the extra chest.

If you’re still getting started in Season 3 of Diablo 4, don’t miss out on the Governing and Tuning Stones for your Seneschal.
