Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Being an online, live-service game, Valorant is sometimes susceptible to error codes that can drive a wedge between you and your next match. With occasional server maintenance and regular patch updates, error codes are simply unfortunate third-wheels that come along. Recently, error code “VAL 19” has been surfacing, however may likely be a side effect of the upcoming 5.03 patch scheduled to release on August 9. Error code “VAL19” is usually accompanied with the message, “There was an error connecting to the platform. Please restart your game client”. This, simply put, just means that the Valorant client is having issues establishing a connection to the server. The good news is that the problem likely isn’t on your end. The bad news is that sometimes there’s nothing you can do but wait. However, here are some easy steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:

Restart Valorant and the Riot Client

  • Sometimes a simple restart is all that’s needed. This will give you a fresh boot of the Valorant client, possibly clearing out any bugs that may be occuring, and will also check the Riot servers for any available updates.

Update Valorant if Possible

  • If restarting the client does begin with a patch download, this is quite possibly why you were experiencing an error in the first place. Valorant must always be updated to the latest patch in order to play online.

Restart your Computer and Internet Connection

  • The old tried and true method – turn it off and on again. If the above methods don’t yield satisfactory results, try restarting your computer and/or your internet connection altogether. This will give you a fresh boot of Windows and will all but confirm that the problem isn’t on your end.

Check if Valorant Servers are Down

  • If the above methods still don’t work, don’t take any drastic measures just yet – maybe the servers are just down for everyone. Check a reliable server status website like Downdetector, Riot Games’ own Service Status page, or the official Valorant Twitter account.

Error code “VAL 19” is common and is often an issue on Riot’s end, not yours. However, if your friends are able to easily connect and the servers aren’t showing any signs of outages, one of the methods listed above should do the trick for you. You may experience error code 19 as patch 5.03 is just around the corner but, rest easy, and you’ll be back to the fragging in no time.
