How to Finish Break the Deal in Escape from Tarkov

Stop unpacking those 7.62x51 ammo packs!

The Break the Deal task, introduced in patch 0.16 from Escape from Tarkov, teaches players a sneaky way to snipe opponents by forcing them to push the scaffolding area in the expanded industrial plant in Customs. Players need to stash items in four different spots in the industrial plant. While two of the items are provided by the trader, you’ll need to find the other two before you can stash them in Customs. In this guide, we’ll cover how to completely finish the Break the Deal quest from Ragman in Escape from Tarkov. So, if you’ve struggled to find a pack of 7.62x51mm ammo, we’ll also cover that here.

How to Complete the Break the Deal Task in Escape from Tarkov

To finish the Break the Deal task from Ragman, you must finish the following objectives:

  • Stash a DVL-10 Sniper Rifle at the specified spot on Customs
  • Stash a DVL-10 Magazine at the specified spot on Customs
  • Stash an ELCAN SpectreDR Scope at the specified spot on Customs
  • Stash a pack of any 7.62×51 NATO ammo at the specified spot on Customs

Upon accepting the quest, Ragman will give you a DVL-10 Sniper Rifle with a DVL-10 Magazine. Get it from the messenger. Unload the magazine just in case you stash the DVL-10 Sniper Rifle first. If you stash the rifle with the magazine attached, you will lose it so make sure to remove the magazine or you can also stash the magazine first before the sniper rifle.

ELCAN SpectreDR Scope is available at Peacekeeper level 3. If you haven’t reached this level yet, you can also barter for it with 2x SSDs from Mechanic level 2.

As for the 7.62x51mm NATO ammo pack, you’ll need one that is unpacked. Ammo packs spawn as random loose loot in specific areas of a map so they are quite rare. They don’t even spawn in airdrops or supply crates as those spawn unpacked ammo already. This is usually the biggest challenge in completing the Break the Deal task, but we’ll cover this part later.

ELCAN Spectre 1x/4x Scope Stash Location

In the scaffolding beside the industrial plant, there’s a stairway going up near the construction site. Go up the first stairway and go to the far corner near the boxes on the second floor. Place the ELCAN here and make sure to use the box as cover.

DVL-10 Magazine Stash Location

Go up to the third floor and go to the center of the scaffolding near the railing. You’ll see a broken box and this is where you’ll be stashing the DVL-10 Magazine. Again, use the boxes for cover when placing the objective.

7.62.51 NATO Ammo Pack Stash Location

When you have your 7.62.51 ammo pack, go to the 4th floor and go to the closest corner to the stairs with the single box. It is a bit of a devious move by Battlestate Games to have the hardest item to find on the quest be placed in such an open area. This is the top floor with barely no cover so you can be open from Scav snipers or anyone around the area that looks up.

DVL-10 Sniper Rifle Stash Location

On the same floor, you’ll have to place the DVL-10 Sniper Rifle in the opposite corner. However, there’s a lot of cover for this spot so it is relatively safe.

How to Get a 7.62.51 Ammo Pack in Escape from Tarkov

If you have problems finding a 7.62.51mm NATO ammo pack, you can start going to spots that frequently spawn ammo packs. The closest one to the quest is Stronghold. In the Scav room, ammo packs can spawn on the couch, the beds, and on top of the table. These spots don’t exclusively spawn ammo packs as they may spawn food, valuables, or even Salewas. If you go to the second floor, ammo packs also spawn on top of the boxes overlooking the railroad.

Since there are several types of ammo in the game, it may take a while before you find some 7.62.51mm NATO ammo packs. Outside of Customs, Lighthouse should give you the highest chance of finding these ammo packs. There are several ammo pack spawns on top of boxes scattered around the water treatment plant in Lighthouse.

If you don’t want to look for the ammo packs, you can always find a quest that awards one. Around the same time you get the Break the Deal quest (hopefully), you’ll also get a quest called The Good Times – Part 1 from Prapor. It rewards two 7.62x51mm M62 Tracer ammo packs. Since it gives two packs, you’ll have two chances to place it in case you fail.

Since you cannot put ammo packs in your secure containers, it’ll be extremely risky to bring them to Customs to finish the quest. You’ll have to be very careful and conservative when playing.
