How to Get the Mindflayer Crown in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – Exact Location

Once you’ve excavated all the artifacts in the Scars of War Excavation Intel area, you’ll unlock a recipe for an item called Psychic’s Charm. This charm, which increases max MP and magic power by 5%, is incredibly potent for your magic-using party members. But crafting this item isn’t easy, as it requires a unique item: the Mindflayer Crown. Here’s how to get it.

First, you’ll need to unlock all Lifesprings in Junon. There are four total.

  • Chocobuff Lifespring – Near the Wainwright shack. Most likely encountered while completing Stuck in a Rut, which gets you your Chocobo for the region.
  • Castaway Lifespring – On an island south of Batteryhill Tower. Best accessed by jumping into the water south of Cargo Shipwreck Cache.
  • Mountain Outpost Lifespring – Follow the path east of the Mog Merchant Mogstool.
  • Pharecape Lifespring – Jump in the water and swim to the very south peninsula. Use the boat to access this cliffside and Lifespring.

Once you have all four, Chadley will call you and let you know he’s located the Mindflayer, which is very close to the Castaway Lifespring.

The game recommends you fight the Mindflayer at level 26, but it’s not an overly difficult opponent. Its big gimmick is that it has several hard-hitting attacks, but you’re warned well in advance. It’s also resistant to all magic and most debuffs.

Take advantage of its small health pool and use Synergy Attacks to pressure it. An all-out physical assault with caution around its attacks is the ideal way to turn this octopus into sashimi. Its resistances are:

  • Magic
  • Berserk
  • Deprotect
  • Deshell
  • Debrave
  • Slow
  • Stop
  • Poison
  • Sleep
  • Morphable Items

The Mindflayer is immune to:

  • Proportional Damage
  • Silence
  • Stone

Upon defeating it, you’ll get 440 gil and the Mindflayer Crown, which you can now use to craft the Psychic’s Charm.
