How to Find and Beat the Battle-Worn Shark in Octopath Traveler 2

There is no shortage of optional bosses is Octopath Traveler 2, and the Battle-Worn shark is one that you can encounter very quickly. You’ll just need to complete Partitio’s Scent of Commerce quest in Topu’hopu. Once you have your boat, head to Canalbrine’s pier.

Take off and immediately head south, into the cove just below Canalbrine. There, at the bay’s entrance, you’ll see a fin circling. Approach it, and you’ll get a dialogue box that says, “The sense of danger is overwhelming. Are you certain you wish to proceed?”

Before you begin the battle, make sure your team is up for it. The Battle-Worn Shark has 60,000 HP and is capable of doing some brutal attacks. If you feel prepared, start the fight.

All of Battle-Worn Shark’s Weaknesses in Octopath Traveler 2

  • HP: 60,000
  • Shield Points: 9
  • Weaknesses 1: Polearm, sword, staff, fire
  • Weaknesses 2: Sword, dagger axe, lightning
  • Steal / Drop: Lost Tribe’s Blade

Battle-Worn Shark is a very straightforward boss encounter. It will periodically use two debuffs, which will prevent one or more party members from using their Boost Powers or lower the entire party’s speed. It’s the latter that proves to be the most brutal, as Battle-Worn Shark is very fast and can often hit twice in a row.

But what makes this fish a little more challenging than most is how brutal its physical attacks are. It’s a good idea to ensure all your units are as close to 3,000 HP as possible. If your team’s HP is lower, having a Cleric for Heal Wounds is essential.

Otherwise, effective strategies are using the Armsmaster Sixfold Strike to take advantage of the Shark’s many physical weaknesses and using Vengeful Blade. It’s not often that the Shark attacks twice in a row, but if you get lucky, you’ll tear away a good chunk of its HP.

Whittle the Battle-Worn Shark down to its gills, and it will die, leaving a Lost Tribe’s Blade in its place. Once it’s dead, you’ll have access to the chest with Gimmick Goggles on the left and the dungeon in the bay.

How to Find More Battle-Worn Sharks

While it’s not possible to capture the Battle-Worn Shark on your first encounter, you can capture it the second time you see it.

Return to the spot you initially found it, then equip the Hunter Support Skill, Even More Monsters. For good measure, slap on an Alluring Ribbon as an accessory as well. Once you have these equipped, sail around in this area. You’ll encounter many sea enemies, but eventually, you’ll encounter another Battle-Worn Shark.

This shark has similar weaknesses as the first, but it has one stark difference: you can capture it once it gets weak enough. And it’s absolutely worth capturing, as Battle-Worn Shark’s capture skill does area-of-effect damage while also recovering HP, SP, and BP for your team.
