How to Cure Frenzied Flame in Elden Ring

If you’re reading this, chances are you were simply exploring the vast world of Elden Ring, or maybe you were like me and half paying attention to a guide to get the Fingerprint Stone Shield. You came across the Door from Hell, and the friendly messages around said you had to be naked to get in. You laughed, but tried anyway, and… it worked? But then a giant hand burnt the bajeezus out of you and your eyes started glowing.

That’s the Frenzied Flame, and what Elden Ring doesn’t tell you is having those gnarly-looking burn marks locks you into a specific ending. Spent dozens of hours going through all Ranni’s quests? Too bad, you’re a fire demon or something now. Luckily, there is a way to get rid of your accidental betrayal. Literally just one, and if you aren’t prepared to fight some of Elden Ring’s strongest bosses, you don’t get to use it.

Frenzied Flame Guide

Yikes

So, you’ve thoroughly explored the Subterranian Shunning-Grounds, and found the hidden passage behind the boss there. Or you didn’t, and you’ve just learned there’s a hidden passage behind the Morgott fight. Either way, fast forward a few asinine jumping puzzles and you’re all grilled up thanks to the Three Fingers. Your next goal is a series of quests and boss fights that will add another several hours to your game time. Hooray!

First off, you want to proceed through the entirety of Millicent’s quest line, all the way through the Halligtree to Elpael. We recommend helping her fight her sisters, but either way you end up with the Unalloyed Gold Needle back in your pocket. Here’s a guide for all that stuff:

After all that, now you get to finish making your way through Elpael and fight Malenia! Depending on where you’re at with Elden Ring and your skill level, Malenia is either “the hardest boss in FromSoftware history” or really easy, especially with blood and friends. Here’s a guide though, if you need help:

Here’s the important part. Once you defeat Malenia, you need to leave the room, rest at a Site of Grace, whatever you need to pass some time. Go back to the boss room and you’ll see a big Scarlet Aeonia, which you can interact with if you have the needle from Millicent. That step turns the item into Miquella’s Needle, which is consumable. Weird, huh? Don’t use it yet! First you have to slay a dragon.

Yeah, you have to fight Placidusax, who is a royal pain in the Elden Throne. But the good news is, if you really didn’t want that Frenzied Flame ending, you’re good now. Simply use Maquella’s Needle while in the empty boss arena, and you’ll be free of the curse, or demon or whatever this thing technically is in lore terms. It’s over, is what I’m saying. The neat part is while you lose the glowing eye gimmick, your body is still burnt which probably makes for some good stories at the Roundtable Hold. Well, it would if you hadn’t, you know.
