The large open world of Aionios in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a challenge in itself, with many spacious zones hiding secrets and numerous alternative paths you can take with your party. However, unlike other Nintendo open-world games like Breath of the Wild, it is not possible to climb everywhere – scaling mountains is possible but only in places marked with purple vines. However, at the beginning of the game, you will not be able to climb them, so learn how to climb purple vines in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 by following our guide.

How to Climb Purple Vines in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

To be able to climb purple vines in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, you need to have the Wall Climbing skill unlocked. It is a reward that you get for completing the Hero Quest for Artificer Valdi called “The Kind Right Hand. It is a part of the main story during Chapter 3 so it’s kind of hard to miss. So basically, you won’t be able to climb the purple vines before the third chapter.

Once you finish the Hero Quest for Valdi, he will teach your party to climb the vines and the skill will be unlocked automatically. After that, every time you get close to climbable parts, the pickaxe icon will be shown where you can use the action button to grab onto them and start climbing.

Other Traversal Skills in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Wall Climbing is just one of many Traversal Skills that can be unlocked in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 during the main story and that can make going through the big open world of Aionios much easier. In Chapter 4, the party will learn the Rope Sliding skill, useful for those zipline-connected parts, and late in the game, there is a skill for Scree Walking used in the sandy zones to walk up the sand dunes.
