How old is Ellie in The Last of Us Part 1

How old is Ellie in The Last of Us Part 1?

Growing up in a harsh world

The Last of Us is Naughty Dog’s 2013 PlayStation 3 hit game that has already received one Remaster, but now nine years and a sequel later, we’re about to get a full PlayStation 5 remake: The Last of Us Part I. The story of Joel and Ellie is well known to many players, but as the new edition will attract brand new fans to the franchise, some may be wondering – how old is Ellie in The Last of Us Part I?

How Old is Ellie in The Last of Us Part 1?

In The Last of Us Part 1, Ellie is only 14 years old, as confirmed on the game’s official page on PlayStation.com, to quote: “In a ravaged civilization, where infected and hardened survivors run rampant, Joel, a weary protagonist, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of a military quarantine zone. However, what starts as a small job soon transforms into a brutal cross-country journey.”

The Part I remake comes with the Left Behind DLC that also got the graphical overhaul treatment. The story of this DLC takes place in a very similar time frame as the main game, happening just a few weeks before, so yeah, Ellie is 14 there as well.

Those are really awkward years to grow up in the brutal post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us. Being only 14 means that Ellie was born into the world as it is in the present time of The Last of Us stories, where the Quarantine Zones and Infected are just a part of everyday life, meaning that she never experienced normal life before the fall of civilization.

Also, Ellie looks a little more gritty and tougher in the remake, more akin to her older version from Part II, while the original model from the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 games was more… innocent looking?
