A Soul Lantern is a new lantern that is specific to the Nether. These are used in place of torches and even better? They can be hung from the ceiling! It’s functional, it’s stylish, which means you should want them, so here’s how to make them!

First things first, you’re going to need to make a Nether portal to actually get into the Nether. Since this item type is specific to this area, you’re going to want to head there first. You can learn about Nether portals with our previous guide here.

Once you’re in the Nether, it’s time to look for a Soul Sand Valley Biome. The newest expansion provides several new biomes for players to discover. While Soul Sand isn’t new to the game per se, it does have new resources that players can farm. In this case, you’re going to want to load up on Soul Soil.

Not sure what it looks like? Soul Soil looks similar to Soul Sand except that it’s wavier and you’ll see blue flames coming out from it. Grab some of this good stuff and you’re ready to start! One quick note though, one Soul Soil is needed for every four Soul Torches, which is the next step towards making the Nether a little brighter.

Soul Torches

To craft a Soul Torch, you’ll need Coal/Charcoal and a stick. Approach your crafting table and put these all together for a batch of Soul Torches. This is the first step to getting a lantern. The next step requires crafting Iron Nuggets, which requires Iron Ingot, which will equate to 9 Nuggets.
