Does Final Fantasy VII Remake Have a Photo Mode?

Midgar has never had so much to offer which is why players want to capture their in-game adventures, but is there a Final Fantasy VII remake photo mode?
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Photo Modes have been increasingly popular in AAA games through the years and for good reason. Technology today makes gaming experiences incredibly beautiful and Midgar has never looked better as it does with the Final Fantasy VII Remake. With so many upgraded areas and new experiences all together, players are wondering one thing in particular: Does the Final Fantasy VII Remake have a Photo Mode?

Does Final Fantasy VII Remake Have a Photo Mode?

At the time this article was written, Square Enix has not given PlayStation 4 players the means to take photos in-game with an official Photo Mode outside of the simple Share option on the PS4 DualShock controller. A darn shame considering most modern Photo Modes come with a plethora of design options including FOV, different filters, facial emotes, and so much more.

Just picture it: the normally somber Cloud Strife with a silly grin on his face. Aerith with an exaggerated scowl, Tifa with a variety of facial expressions – a Photo Mode would give these characters even more depth than they already have while allowing fans a chance to get goofy with how they remember their time in Midgar.

So while there is no Final Fantasy VII Remake Photo Mode at this time, that doesn’t mean there won’t ever be. Many AAA titles add this feature in post-launch and with Xbox One and PC versions of the game potentially on the way, it’s possible Square Enix is guarding the in-game experience closely until those other versions become readily available.

Given that the studio has a Share block for Chapter 18 to where the controller option isn’t able to take any clips or photos in an effort to mitigate spoilers, it’s clear that this company is protecting their property’s integrity until the world gets a chance to enjoy it for themselves. Given that so many are also still awaiting their physical copies due to COVID-19, the protections don’t eliminate spoilers but it does help a little bit in terms of what design revisions players can look forward to before diving in themselves.

So, no … the Final Fantasy VII remake doesn’t have a Photo Mode but that doesn’t mean it won’t in the near future. With a game as stunning as this and so many making it known that they want a Final Fantasy VII Remake Photo Mode, Square Enix is listening. That, and the second installment of this remake is also coming down the pipeline and a Photo Mode would be just one more way to reflect back on the journey thus far.

Until then, players can take photos leading up to Chapter 18 by using the Share option on the left-hand side of the PS4 DualShock controller. This allows players to capture a small clip or image and then either share it to the gallery or upload it in Activities and on social media. Snap snap!
