Baldur’s Gate 3: All Ornate Mirror Answers in BG3

Prove your trustworthiness.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll eventually find an ornate mirror in the Blighted Village cellar. Before you can venture forward, you must prove you’re an ally of the mirror’s master Ilyn Toth, by answering various questions; here is our Ornate Mirror in BG3 guide.

Where to Find the Ornate Mirror in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

To begin the Search the Cellar quest and tackle the Ornate Mirror questions, venture down the Blighted Village’s well and locate the backpack at coordinates (X: -495, Y: -365). You’ll find and read an apprentice’s journal, revealing the cellar as your next destination.

From here, you’ll teleport back to the Blighted Village waypoint, head inside the nearby building, and follow the quest marker to the cellar entrance: a wooden hatch behind a wine rack beside the bar counter.

Upon entering the cellar, there’s plenty of things you can pick up and shove in your pocket, but you may want to make a point to read the Healer’s Log book sitting open on the large desk. Your next step is to find a lever revealing the hidden passage to the Ornate Mirror. If you succeed in a Perception Check, it will appear as a glowing lever on the wall. Otherwise, you’ll find it behind a stack of crates near a large bookcase. Activating the lever reveals a path into a grove-like area, with the Ornate Mirror located just south of this spot at the end of a wooden platform.

All Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) Ornate Mirror Questions and Answers

After locating the Ornate Mirror in the Blighted Village cellar, you must introduce yourself, claim you’re an ally of the mirror’s master, and answer three questions.

The questions and answers for the Ornate Mirror are as follows:

  • What think you of the zulkir known as Szass Tam?
    • A foul lich. May he die a thousand more deaths.
  • Tell me, why might one use balsam ointment?
    • To clean a wound?
  • If you could see anything in me, what would it be?
    • I’d look for whatever spell will rid me of this worm in my head.

When asked about the Zulkir, you can pass a History check to get a little more info on this foul lich. The balsam ointment question you’ll have learned the answer to if you read the Healer’s Log in the previous room. And the “if you could see anything in me, what would it be” is just a straightforward judgment question.

Tip:

If you answer any of the above questions incorrectly, the wooden caskets behind you will open, and you’ll be forced into a battle with several undead (assuming you didn’t already fight them). But worse, the Ornate Mirror will no longer respond to you, locking you out from the guarded secrets in the next room.

By answering these questions, you prove you’re not allied with the zulkir Szass Tam, are familiar with balsam ointment’s wound-cleaning properties, and seek survival by removing the tadpole in your head.

Once you answer all three questions correctly, the Ornate Mirror turns into an entrance into a laboratory. Here, you’ll look for and read the Moonhaven Logbook and begin your search for the Necromancy of Thay.

What is the Necormancy of Thay?

The Necromancy of Thay is a powerful book with its own will and influence on BG3 characters. The Necromancy of Thay is found hidden in Blighted Village Apothecary’s basement. Successfully unlocking this book can essentially give your character the ability to cast the “Speak with the Dead” spell at will (although limited to once per long rest, ensuring at will re-casts) among a few other buffs.

This mirrors the functionality of the “Amulet of the Lost Voices” but without occupying an equipment slot. Alternatively, you have the option to offer the Necromancy of Thay to Astarion to increase his approval and get unique dialogue options, or Gale to manage his condition.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC and Mac, PlayStation 5, and soon on Xbox and Xbox Series X|S. To learn more about the game, check out how to get and complete Find the Missing Shipment in Baldur’s Gate 3, or click the game tag below to explore our growing article collection.
