All New Players and Gear in Mario Strikers Battle League: Free Update 3

Bowser Jr and Birdo join the roster for Battle League

Mario Strikers: Battle League (Mario Strikers: Battle League Football as it’s known to the rest of the world) arrived on Switch this summer, and initial impressions were mixed. In our review, we gave it 5/10 and one of the biggest complaints was the lack of content – above all, many characters from previous installments of Nintendo’s arcadey soccer were missing. Since becoming aware of this problem, Nintendo has released two free updates that have added more playable characters to the roster, a couple of new stadiums, and equipment.

The third and final free update for Mario Strikers Battle League brings the following:

  • Two new playable characters: Bowser Jr and Birdo
  • New gear: Shellfish Set that boosts speed and technique
  • New venue: Urban Rooftop Stadium (can be used as your Club Stadium)

Now that we know what the final update brings, the question arises – does this make it a better and more complete game now? Mario Strikers Battle League with a more extensive roster of characters, more gear, and more stadiums that were added for free definitely seems like a better and more complete package, if it came out this summer with all this extra content that was added later, maybe our score would be higher by just one digit. However, many players still insist that Mario Strikers Charged on the Wii is still a more complete title. What do you think?
