Do You Want a New Prince of Persia Game?

The ‘will they, won’t they’ regarding a new Prince of Persia game has been going on since the beginning of time – or at least the beginning of the franchise’s dormancy. Now there is a new leak suggesting that a new Prince of Persia announcement is imminent, which is shaking up the discussion hive once more on if that’s something fans even want at this point. 

The initial new Prince of Persia game leak came via one Redditor that claims inside knowledge via a recent Restera discussion where verified insider ‘Okabe’ teased “see ya in a couple of weeks” after laughing in response to one fan referring to the lack of any PoP news.  While that’s obviously not an official “yes, this is happening” from the dev team that is allegedly attached to this revival, this thread did spark renewed interest in whether or not a new game is even wanted this far after its dormancy following a few significant pitfalls. 

That being said, Ubisoft did reveal a new Prince of Persia VR escape room experience back in February and it was there that the studio teased that there was more to come. While many assumed this meant more locations opening up, could they have actually been teasing something else? 

The Prince of Persia games were definitely iconic when they were first released and even spawned a movie starring A-list talent. This franchise has a long-standing history with gamers which is a big reason why the topic of its future still remains relevant. One thing we know for sure is that the original Prince creator has mentioned numerous times in the past that he would be more than ready to return to the series and has even told fans that “we’re doing our best to make it happen.” 

There is definitely interest in a sequel, but would we want a continuation or a fresh start? 

It will be interesting to see what sort of plans the studio has for a new Prince of Persia game is this information proves true. If accurate, we’ll be knowing soon enough in the coming weeks, which is perfect with Ubisoft’s recently confirmed showcase set up for the second week in June in place of E3!
