The Ogryn in Warhammer 40K: Darktide has some of the most restrictive weapon choices out of any character. Even the few that are there tend to be different variants of a singular weapon, so you’re generally stuck to a few select weapon choices. On the flip side, each weapon is one that the Ogryn can use exclusively. One of these weapons is a powerful shotgun, though its variants may leave you a tad confused. Here are all the Ripper Gun variants and what they do in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.
What Does Each Ripper Gun Variant Do in Darktide?
In total, the Foe-Rend Ripper Gun has three variants, those being the Mk II, the Mk V, and the Mk VI. This may make it seem like they’re the same weapon, though they have some surprising differences. Here is what each one does:
- Foe-Rend Mk II Ripper Gun – Unlocks at Trust Level Two
- The Mk II Ripper Gun is the most well-rounded of the three variants, offering a nice mix of fire rate and damage. Its primary fire offers a burst of three shotgun rounds while holding down the secondary action button lets you use the weapon in full-auto mode. It doesn’t have standout strengths like the other two variants but is good if you want a nice mix of stats.
- Foe-Rend Mk V Ripper Gun – Unlocks at Trust Level Seven
- The Mk V Ripper Gun leans more towards the fire rate side of things, bringing out a lower clip but much faster shots for higher potential DPS. The downside of the weapon is the damage per shot, which means more ammo will be needed before you can take down the target. If you want damage out as quickly as possible though, this is a formidable choice and a favorite for us.
- Foe-Rend Mk VI Ripper Gun – Unlocks at Trust Level 17
- The final of the three variants, the Mk VI Ripper Gun takes a slightly different approach to its two brethren. Its standard fire switches over to a two-round burst, while the secondary action changes the weapon into a three-round burst. This may sound objectively worse, though the damage per bullet is much higher making for the best use of each bullet. If you’re particularly about saving ammo, this ironically may be your best bet.
No matter which of the three Ripper Gun variants you choose, the special action button remains the same. Pressing the button will use the bayonet attached to the front of the barrel, dealing some small damage to any foes in front of you. The special action makes for a good way to stagger a few foes so you can switch over to your melee weapon and finish them off.

The Ripper Gun is an incredible ranged option for the Ogryn. No matter which of the three you prefer, the weapon will easily tear through whatever you throw at it. That is, provided you aren’t shooting straight at Carapace Armor.
