Baldur’s Gate 3: Where is the House of Grief (BG3)

The House of Grief just sounds like a hive of villainy

Look, we love Shadowheart. She’s our favorite goth girlfriend, the most romanced character in Baldur’s Gate 3. But we know for a fact that we’re not the only people who killed every Netherstone-bearing boss, completed every side quest, and realized… wait. We have no idea where Shadowheart’s Sharran home, the House of Grief, is or the Sharran lookout she’s supposed to find. So, here’s how to find the House of Grief in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Where is the Sharran Lookout

Before looking for the House of Grief, you’ll first want to get to the Sharran Lookout, which you’ll be tasked with finding after Shadowheart’s fated confrontation in the Gauntlet of Sharr at the end of Act 2. This lookout is incredibly unassuming, and you’ll probably walk right past it if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for.

The Sharran Lookout is located in Rivington east near the refugees’ barn. There, you’ll find a shabby tent-like setup next to a well with a man named Ferg Drogher standing underneath it. This man is a peddler of mementos, and, believe it or not, a Sharran. Use Shadowheart to talk to him and he’ll nudge her to the Cloister of Sombre Embrace—a Sharr temple underneath the House of Grief.

Where is the House of Grief? – Answered

When you first encounter the Sharr lookout in Rivington, you’re given your next instruction. Go to the House of Grief and face the consequences of your actions and try to save your parents. At least, if Shadowheart aligned with Selune.

But if your Shadowheart instead opted to become a Dark Justicar, maybe your goal is to finally destroy the Matron of Shar who refused to see the potential Shadowheart bore all along. Either way, you need to make your way to Shadowheart’s childhood home.

To find the House of Grief, you’ll need to get to Lower City. Getting into the Lower City can require some footwork.

First, you’ll need to get past the South Span Checkpoint. To do this, you can attack the fists guarding the checkpoint (not recommended) or pay them 200 gold. If you helped the Gnomes in the Grymforge and helped them escape Moonrise Tower, they’ll attack the guards, allowing you to run past the checkpoint.

Once you’re in the second part of Rivington, you’ll need to get a pass to get into Lower City.

How to Get Into the Lower City in BG3

You have three options for getting into the Lower City:

  • Complete the Open Hand Temple Murder Case, then speak to Valeria in the Sharess Caress.
  • Complete the first part of the Suspicious Toys quest and find Arfur in the Sharess Caress.
  • Get thrown in jail by being some place you’re not meant to be or get caught stealing. Then choose to go to jail. You’ll then have to lockpick your way out of jail, but you’ll be able to access Lower City.

The House of Grief Location

Once you have the pass to Lower City in hand, you’ll find the House of Grief at the top northwest of the Lower City map. It’s just to the left of Baldur’s Gate waypoint, and right above Lady Jannath’s Estate.

But once you’re inside, you’ll be faced with some pretty significant questions, including whether or not you should save or kill Shadowheart’s parents.
