Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Open Bhaal’s Door in the Ruins (BG3)

Sacrifice required

As you explore the sewers in the city, you’re bound to come across the Undercity Ruins in Baldur’s Gate 3, and there you will find Bhaal’s Door. This entrance demands blood, and it’s only the first step to reaching the temple, so here’s how to open Bhaal’s Door in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Open the Temple of Bhaal Door in BG3

To open Bhaal’s Door before the Temple of Bhaal path in BG3, you need to have spilt some blood either by visiting the Murder Tribunal or by making use of the corpses hanging above you.

The quickest and easiest way to open Bhaal’s Door, is to shoot the bodies hanging above the platform. If you are facing the door itself, there is a circular platform directly behind you, and when you zoom out, you can see a couple of bodies hanging directly above. These are the keys to gaining instant access.

Use any of the ranged attacks you have access to for blood to start flowing and hit the platform. I used a standard attack on my archer for full accuracy and no cost. Don’t waste your resources unless you have all melee characters and absolutely need to. Once an attack connects and the blood fills the stone platform, the doors will open up.

It’s a super simple solution to the door, and it took me some time to put the pieces together in my head, which is usually the case with Baldur’s Gate 3. But, again as usually the case with BG3, you have multiple options to open Bhaal’s Door.

Speaking to Bhaal’s Door

If you’ve visited the Murder Tribunal beneath Candulhallow’s Tombstones in BG3 after investigating all the Open Hand murders, then you’ll have either come out of it as an Unholy Assassin of Bhaal or slaughtered everyone inside. No matter the choices you made during your unholy judgement, you can now simply speak to Bhaal’s Door to gain entry. All you need to do is tell the door that you’re an Unholy Assassin or that you’ve murdered the Murder Tribunal. Either option will satisfy Bhaal’s lust for blood, and Bhaal’s Door will then open up.

But even with this part of the Undercity Ruins opened up, there is far more to complete up ahead. Once you walk through Bhaal’s Door, you can make your way to the temple. This initial door allows you to reach the next step before the Temple of Bhaal, but it’s not the temple itself. To reach the real Temple and items like Dribbles the Clown’s Head, you must get past the Farslayer and his minions.

That’s all you need to open Bhaal’s Door in BG3. For an exact location of the clown head, check out my guide on how to find Dribbles the Clown in Baldur’s Gate 3.
