How to Get The Shotgun in Amnesia: The Bunker

The ultimate "Get off my property!" tool in this game.

At the very start of Amnesia: the Bunker, you get your first firearm – the Revolver, which is useful in many ways. It can hurt the Beast, open Padlocks for you, blow up explosive barrels, or even kill the mutated Rats. But, why don’t we take it up a notch and introduce a big boomstick to the scene? There’s a Shotgun in Amnesia: The Bunker, which is hinted at by the shotgun shells you keep picking up during your playthrough. But where is this Shotgun, and how can you get it? That’s something I’ll be glad to answer you in this guide.

Where to Find The Shotgun in Amnesia: The Bunker

I know, you saw the Shotgun hanging out in the locker room and figured it’s that easy. No, it’s actually not. Based on what I’ve found out in the first playthrough, you will need to actually go to the Roman Tunnels to get your first Shotgun. In the next playthrough, on Easy Mode, I spotted it in one of the lockers. If you’ve been following Prima Games guides for Amnesia: The Bunker, you probably checked out the Detonator Handle article, so you can click the link to jump to the specific section which mentions this encounter. Here’s a map of the Roman Tunnels, if you have already gained access to them (getting the Chain Cutters is necessary):

Right as you pull up to the first yellow marker, you will be able to hear the mysterious entity blast a rat with a Shotgun (or even better, see it for yourself). On the map, the enemy is marked as “E”. The Enemy won’t move unless you make sufficient noise for him to announce that he hears you and that he will hunt you down (like breaking a door, for example). So, there are two reliable ways to get rid of this enemy and make his Shotgun yours for the taking.

  1. Throw a grenade his way. The explosive kind. Because I assure you, he’ll run out of the gas grenade’s cloud.
  2. Take out the flashlight, wind it up, and slowly crouch towards him with the revolver ready to fire. You can help yourself by leaning to the left. It is definitely possible to ambush him and dispose of him with a single bullet to the head. Otherwise, it will take you two or three bullets to kill him. Bullets are scarce, be mindful of this.

If you end up in an open fight with him, he will shoot at you and disappear into thin air. Good luck getting a drop on him again then.

That thing you killed is a possessed soldier of some kind, and we do not know what exactly happened to him. He is the only enemy at this level. The Beast cannot get you here. Everything else you see are illusions, so you can relax. If you shot at an illusion, you got yourself an achievement.

Now that you’ve gotten yourself a Shotgun, you can blast through doors! Make sure to check up on your ammo, because the shotgun shells are kind of rare in Amnesia: The Bunker.
