Tenebris Somnia Vitria Tentacle Monster Boss Guide
A lengthy and annoying boss fight.
Vitria is one of the hardest if not the hardest boss fight in Tenebris Somnia due to her several phases and mechanics. Grab all the ammunition and healing items you can before this fight. Here’s a breakdown on how to defeat Vitria the Tentacle Monster boss in Tenebris Somnia.
How to Beat Vitria in Tenebris Somnia
Vitria Attacks Explained
Vitria doesn’t have too many attacks but the few attacks she has are dangerous nonetheless.
- Grab Attack: Vitria launches a tentacle straight towards you. If she grabs and pulls you in it’s an instant-death regardless of HP. You can escape the grab if you have enough distance by rapidly pressing the interact key.
- Wide Spread Attack: Vitria launches four tentacles in your general direction diagonally. Luckily, she doesn’t target the middle area and the hitbox is forgiving. If you see her charge it up, align yourself to the middle of the room.
- Invisible Tentacles: The most annoying and dangerous attack that will quickly chip away at your health. The tentacles are invisible and can only be seen in the mirror, but remember that the mirror is inverted. You can tell where they will spawn based on the red runes on the floor.
- Invincibility: Vitria will remain invulnerable for most of the fight as long as the red circle is around her. To damage her, you need to target and hit her tentacles that spawn from the floor.
Vitria Phases Explained
Vitria’s boss fight has three total phases with most of them being the same with some minor differences.
First you will fight Vitria on our side of the mirror in her monster form. Dodge her attacks and damage her until she goes invulnerable. Then damage her tentacles, stun her and damage her until the mirror shatters. Once you deal enough damage to her, the mirror will shatter and you will be able to enter the mirror through a red portal.
This will invert your controls and menus and can be quite disorienting if you aren’t ready. Vitria will attack you only with tentacles but she will also remain invulnerable. You must damage the tentacles while having inverted controls. You can also find some ammo and healing on the inverted side. Once you deal enough damage you’ll be sent back.
Once you’re back you’ll repeat the previous steps of beating her tentacle form, entering the mirror and beating her mirror form once again. However, this time she’ll spawn more tentacles to attack you with. Her other two attacks and invulnerability stays the same.
She repeats this a total of three times with the main difference in the third phase being even more tentacle attacks to avoid and deal with. This makes hitting them easier, but avoiding them harder. Once you enter the mirror and beat her for a third time it ends the encounter.
Vitria Best Strategies
Baiting her grab attack by staying at a distance horizontal to her is the best strategy. While it’s a one hit kill attack, it’s slow, telegraphed and easy to sidestep. Furthermore, even if you get grabbed you can spam your interact button and break out of her grab.
While the fight is lengthy and has several phases, you will get to checkpoint save between the phases whenever you beat her mirror form. This reset heals you making the next step easier. So don’t get frustrated even if your battle ends a bit too early.
Make sure to pick up the healing items and ammunition inside the mirror world before attacking Vitria as they can make the fight more managable.
Most importantly, try to save your shotgun ammunition for either her second or third phase. The Shotgun can hit multiple tentacles at once as long as they’re on the screen. Her second and third phases spawn more tentacles making each shotgun attack more valuable and effective at dealing damage.
Once you run out of ammunition, the iron pipe is the best weapon to use because of its larger range of attack. Unlike the wrench it can hit multiple tentacles at once and even stun Vitria during her mirror phase as long as you spam the attack button. The revolver and wrench are not nearly as effective.
As long as you keep these tips in mind, you can ultimately persist and defeat Vitria the tentacle monster in Tenebris Somnia. You are rewarded with an Iron Key and can open the door on the left to progress the main story.
