Who is Chadley in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7)?
In FF7 Rebirth, Chadley is a supporting character who interns as Shinra’s materia researcher and tasks Cloud and the gang with assisting in providing intel for all aspects of the outside world. Throughout the journey in Rebirth, Chadley will request various forms of data sent to him, requiring Cloud to explore the wilds and assess things like fiends, Lifestream nodes, and the world at large. In return, Chadley will develop unique materia for sale and offer VR training missions that can be completed for even more materia.
In Rebirth, Chadley is assisted by MAI, his colleague and fellow researcher. Due to the scanning tool he gives you upon first encounter, they’ll constantly communicate with you as you venture out and survey the wonders of the lands.
Where to Find Chadley in FF7 Rebirth – Exact Location
Your first encounter with Chadley occurs at Bill’s Ranch in the Grasslands region. After visiting the Swamp and realizing the need for Chocobo-assisted traversal, Cloud and the gang will make their way toward the nearest Chocobo ranch. Once you’ve finished wrangling your own Chocobo and are prepped for proper exploration, Chadley will make his presence known.

Should You Help Chadley in FF7 Rebirth?
Chadley provides an invaluable service throughout FF7 Rebirth, and if you want the most out of each region you’ll be traveling through, it’s a great idea to assist him in his research endeavors.
By scanning and surveying the various types of intel scattered around each region, you’ll provide Chadley with important research data. The more intel you send to Chadley, the more advancements he’ll develop for you to make use of.
When speaking with Chadley, you’ll have the choice to develop new materia or partake in unique VR missions for rewards.
Developing new materia will allow you to purchase unique abilities from Chadley using the research points you’ve collected by scanning intel. These materia provide abilities you can only get by helping Chadley, like auto-casting spells and hybrid forms of elemental materia.
The VR missions will also reward you with common materia upon completion and are a fantastic way to not only stock up on necessary abilities and skills but also to learn the basics of combat, your characters, and various encounters. Chadley will even develop VR battles against Summons after obtaining enough intel, allowing you to battle them and obtain their respective materia for future usage.
