When you think of the word “neon” in Starfield, two options come to mind: Neon, the major city of the Volii system, and Ne, a crafting material used in research and equipment modifications. While finding Neon City is also challenging, we’re focusing on locating the resource. Continue reading to discover how to get neon, also known as Ne, in Starfield.
How to Get Neon (Ne) Resource in Starfield
The two main ways to get neon are gathering it on planets or purchasing some from general stores. General stores like Jemison Mercantile in New Atlantis and Shepherd’s General Store in Akila City often sell neon, among other sources. Alternatively, if you want to farm some for free, you can visit planets and moons to harvest it or build outpost mining extractors.
Where to Buy Neon
Unlike many inorganic resources in Starfield, neon is a gas not typically sold at mining shops like the Mining League or Midtown Minerals. Instead, you’ll have to stick to general stores, as they consistently sell a wide range of materials in bulk.
Below are some examples of stores that sell neon:
- Jemison Mercantile in New Atlantis, Jemison, Alpha Centauri.
- UC Distribution Center in New Atlantis’ Commercial District, Jemison, Alpha Centauri.
- UC Exchange in Cydonia, Mars, Sol System
- Shepherd’s General Store in Akila City, Akila, Cheyenne.
You’ll usually find neon selling for around 12-14 credits per unit, with less than ten available to buy at a given time. However, you can refresh this by waiting on a bench for 24 in-game hours or switching to another shop and checking their supply. The only disadvantage of doing this is that neon may not appear the next time you check, as this refresh also randomizes what items are available.
Planets With Neon (Ne)
Another way to get neon or Ne is by harvesting it from planets with it as an available resource. Although farming for neon yourself is more challenging than buying some from a vendor, it is a free option if you want to save your credits for another purchase.
Below are some planets and moons where you can find neon in Starfield:
- Kreet – Narion System
- Porrima IV-c – Porrima System
- Porrima IV-d – Porrima System
- Washakie – Cheyenne System
Neon is a rare resource, so you won’t commonly find it in your day-to-day travels. Fortunately, there are numerous planets with it, so watch for this exotic gas deposit.
Unlike regular ore nodes, where you use a cutter to gather it, you’ll have to approach the gas vent and collect neon from it manually. Be careful while doing this, as your character can quickly inhale too much of the corrosive gas and gain a harmful status ailment such as burns and blisters.
What Is Neon Used for in Starfield?
Neon is an exotic material used to finish research projects and crafting weapon mods, particularly with adding laser sights to your guns. Although you won’t need it frequently for upgrades, it’s a valuable material to keep on hand if you plan on adding laser sights to your guns throughout your playthrough.
