Where Does Dead Island 2 Take Place? – Answered

Dead Island 2, the new zombie apocalypse RPG from Dambuster Studios and Deep Silver crawled out from the grave on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on April 21, 2023. Unlike previous entries in the series, Dead Island 2 takes place in a very different setting from Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. Let’s take a look at the location of Dead Island 2’s story and discuss the various locations featured in the new sequel.

Welcome to “Hell-A”

Dead Island 2 is set in Los Angeles, California or as the game calls it “Hell-A.” According to the description of Dead Island 2, “An undeadly virus is spreading across Los Angeles, turning SoCal residents into walking corpses. Infected but mysteriously immune, you must uncover the truth behind the outbreak and who—or what—you are.”

Dead Island 2 gives players the opportunity to explore gorgeous Californian locations including Bel-Air, Beverly Hills, Hollywood Boulevard, Ocean Avenue, Santa Monica, and Venice Beach, among others. The long-awaited sequel is a continuation of the series’ formula, as there is a visual duality found in Dead Island 2. Similarly to previous Dead Island experiences, the game uses beautiful scenery as the backdrop to gory battles against nightmarish zombies.

California Screaming

While the previous Dead Island games have taken place on islands in the Banoi archipelago (hence the name Dead ISLAND), the “Island” is more metaphorical in the context of Dead Island 2. California is obviously not an island, but is quarantined from the rest of the world due to the game’s zombie outbreak, creating the similar feeling of isolation found in previous games of the series.
