When Will Stadia Shut Down and How Will That Impact You in Destiny 2 – Answered

Get your ducks in a row before they're gone for good

Google Stadia, a cloud gaming service, will be shutting off the lights for good on January 18 at 11:59 PT, according to Google spokesperson Patrick Seybold. But Destiny 2, one of the games on this platform, will be shutting down even earlier than that. Here’s everything you need to know about the Stadia shut down, and how it will affect Destiny 2.

When Will Stadia Shut Down and How Will That Impact You in Destiny 2 – Answered

In a weekly update from Bungie, it was confirmed that Destiny will no longer be using Stadia, starting on January 11. But if you use Stadia and you’re worried about losing your characters, items, and all your progress, don’t worry.

All players using the Stadia platform to play Destiny will be able to save their characters by setting up cross-save and creating a new Destiny 2 and Bungie account on a separate platform, such as PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox One X|S.

A warning telling players to set up cross save if they’re Stadia users was also announced in-game, in case you missed the memo. And it’s likely that after January 11, you won’t be able to access your account on Stadia again, even if Stadia remains up until January 18.

Many players have found Destiny 2’s departure from Stadia unsurprising. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla also announced that its recent update on Stadia would be the last on the platform. While it’s sad to see the cloud gaming service go, we still have Lightfall, releasing on February 28, 2023, to look forward to.

Hopefully, you can migrate over soon, Guardian!
