What is a DMR in Modern Warfare?

by Ginny Woo

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the various challenges available to players in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, then you’ll note that a number of specific ones require you to get kills with certain types of weapons. If you’re not particularly savvy when it comes to the different types of things that you can shoot someone to death with, then you might find knocking these challenges out a bit harder. If you’ve been squinting at some of these requirements and wondering “what is a DMR in Modern Warfare?” then we’ll cover you.

What is a DMR in Modern Warfare?

You’ll need to know what a DMR is if you want to finish the Expert Gunsmith Challenge. One of the sub-objectives of this challenge is to get 70 kills with 5 attachments on a DMR. For those who aren’t in the know, we’ll break it down for you. A DMR is a designated marksman rifle, which is a high-precision weapon valued in Modern Warfare by those who want to get their slaughter on from afar.

Examples of DMRs in Modern Warfare include weapons like:

  • The EBR-14
  • The KAR98k
  • The MK2 Carbine

If you fancy any of the above weapons and reckon that you’re a handy shot, you can take it one step further and use the much-celebrated Gunsmith system to make sure that you’ve got every gun tuned to your specifics. Regardless of whether you’re a fan of the bolt action of the KAR98K or you reckon you’re team MK2, the sky is really the limit. If you’re also trying to knock out the Expert Gunsmith challenge to do with attachments that we mentioned, don’t fret if the rifles don’t appear to initially have 5 attachment slots: it’s just a matter of grinding them out, since they’ll unlock as you play and progress through the game. Yes, you’ll definitely have plenty to be keeping you occupied.

Now that you have our guide on what is a DMR in Modern Warfare, knocking out similar challenges should be a piece of cake. Do you need a hand with anything else in the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? We’ve got a bunch of other tips and tricks:
