If you’re an avid collector of useful mobs in Minecraft, like sheep and pigs, you’ll already know the pain of having to know what food to give them in order to be able to breed or restore health. Although with barnyard animals, it’s fairly simple to understand, things start to get a little more confusing once you realize certain mobs have very specific tastes when it comes to food. The Sniffer, one of Minecraft’s newest critters, is a prime example of a mob that requires some pretty specific fodder before it’ll think about breeding, but once you know what to look out for, you’ll realize it’s not that intimidating at all.
What Do You Feed Sniffers in Minecraft?
Sniffers are herbivores, which has been emphasized by their love of plants within the game, so feeding is much easier. In fact, Sniffers only eat the seeds they dig up, which are known as Torchflower seeds. This is the only seed the species will eat, so things like melon and pumpkin seeds won’t work, unfortunately. The only way to get these seeds is through the use of a Sniffer, so once you’ve hatched one from an egg, follow it around until it begins to dig up seeds. It’s not a guarantee that it’ll be a Torchflower seed every time, but before long, you’re bound to find them.

The central use for Torchflower seeds is to breed Sniffers since it means you won’t have to rely on finding and hatching eggs once you’ve got two. Similarly to breeding sheep and cows, you’ll need to offer the Sniffer a Torch flower seed as though you were consuming it for yourself. Once the Sniffer has taken the food, you’ll know it’ll be ready to breed due to the red hearts around it. After a successful breeding session, you’ll be able to meet your baby Sniffer, also known as a Snifflet.
However, Sniffers aren’t the only positive to Minecraft’s newest update. If you’re looking for more information on some of the newest additions, such as what Suspicious Sand does or what the brush is used for, we’ve got you covered.
