CS2 appears to be the largest technical leap in Counter-Strike history, as clips showcased on the official website show just how many aspects have been improved.

Smoke grenades are now dynamic volumetric objects, and react much more realistically to the surrounding environments. Smoke will naturally fill spaces, and can be temporarily brushed away by things like gunfire and explosions.

Tick rate, one of the core aspects of responsive online shooters, is being improved in a major way. From the CS2 website, “Thanks to Counter-Strike 2’s sub-tick update architecture, servers know the exact instant that motion starts, a shot is fired, or a ‘nade is thrown.

Maps are receiving a big overhaul, with upgrades textures and lighting effects for a brighter and more clear visual experience. In fact, all visual effects are receiving upgrades; from explosions, to fire effects, even down to blood splatter on walls and the ground.
