How To Complete The Scarecrow Quest In Valor Mortis

The Scarecrow is an optional side quest in Chapter 3 of Valor Mortis. It gives you some great rewards so definitely worth doing. 

The quest is about recovering two items for a soldier who has been tied to a cross and left to suffer in the Fallen Village. Finding both items is only half the job, though, as you’ll need to follow a flock of crows to uncover the quest’s final memory.

Completing The Scarecrow rewards you with 6,500 Catalysts and the Bountiful Harvest Amber. Here’s where to find both missing items and how to finish the quest.

How to Start The Scarecrow Quest in Valor Mortis

The Scarecrow Quest starts by interacting with the tied soldier. Once you have defeated General Lothaire in Chapter 2, you will start on Chapter 3.

Progress through Chapter 3 until you reach the Fields Lantern; you will also see Lucjan Skawiński standing next to it, which means you are at the right Lantern.

From there, follow the path until it diverges; take the path to the right, and you will see the soldier tied to a cross. Investigate the body to start the Scarecrow Quest.

You’ll learn that the soldier is missing two belongings: a pendant and a letter. Both items are hidden in the surrounding area. 

Where to Find the Lover’s Pendant

The Lover’s Pendant is near the large tree behind the scarecrow. It’s the largest tree around you, so it’s hard to miss. Go to that tree, and you will see a dead soldier lying at the base of it with the pendant in his hands. Loot the body to collect the Lover’s Pendant.

You can return to the scarecrow now, but you’ll need to find the second item before progressing the quest.

Where to Find the Letter With a Drawing

The Letter With a Drawing is inside a nearby house, on its upper floor. Reaching it takes a little more work because the front entrance is locked. Here is how to get there.

Go straight from the tied man, and you will see an abandoned barn; go inside and climb up the stairs. Make your way around the top and swing from the ledge to get to the other side. You will see a small entrance to the left; go there and jump down. Then just follow the path to exit the barn. 

From there, the path diverges to the left and right. The item is to the right, but go left first to unlock a door; this will unlock a door that will allow you to get to this area from the Lantern, and you won’t have to go through the barn again. 

From there on, just keep following the path. There isn’t any other way, so you won’t get lost. Keep following the way until you reach the destroyed carriage and the Grenadier enemy. Keep following the path until you reach an area with tall haystacks. The path will start moving to the left, but just go through the fields, and you will find the door to the house. In the house, go upstairs, and you will find the Letter With a Drawing on a desk near the bed. 

Pick it up, then return downstairs and unbolt the front door to open a shortcut. With both belongings collected, return to the scarecrow in the field. 

Don’t worry if you get lost; all the routes will end up leading to that house anyway. 

How to Complete The Scarecrow Quest

The heavy lifting for this quest is done. All you need to do is give the items to the scarecrow in the field. Pay attention to the sky after returning the items. A flock of crows will fly away from the scarecrow and lead you toward the next location. Follow them through the nearby area until you reach a building near the field.

Look for scaffolding along the building and climb to the upper floor. Inside, you’ll find a memory connected to the soldier and the woman he loved. Interact with it to witness the scene and complete The Scarecrow quest.

Don’t leave after returning the two items. Following the crows and viewing the final memory is the last step you need to complete the quest.

The Scarecrow Quest Rewards

Completing the Scarecrow Quest rewards you with the following:

• 6,500 Catalysts: Use them to upgrade William and improve his combat capabilities.
• Bountiful Harvest Amber: An Amber that restores health when you collect Remnants.

There’s also a bonus reward nearby. Before leaving the building, check the chest on the lower floor for the Volatile End Amber. Throughout the quest, make sure to go inside all the destroyed buildings; you will find a lot of resources there.
