How to Complete The Emissary Quest in Valor Mortis
Prepare for a long quest
The Emissary is one of the longer side quests in Valor Mortis. It starts in Chapter 2, but you won’t be able to finish it until much later in the game.
That’s because, in order to complete the quest, you need to explore an area that is filled with poisonous gas. The only way to do that is with the Shield Transmutation that you won’t unlock until Chapter 9. So, if you are still at Chapter 2, just progress through the game until you get the Transmutation.
Here’s when you can complete The Emissary in Valor Mortis and where to find every required item.
The Emissary Quest Progression
The quest progresses across multiple chapters; here is a quick overview of how the quest starts and how it finishes.

In short, just don’t worry about the quest until you unlock the Shield Transmutation.
1. Find the Emissary’s Seal in Chapter 2
Your first stop is the Valley of Ashes. When you are done with the Unheard Farewell Quest and have made your way across the broken bridge, you will see a Lantern called The Other Side Lantern.
Just left of the Lantern, you will see a path that leads to an area covered in green poisonous gas. Go there and keep following the path until you see an abandoned carriage. Your main character will start a dialogue as well. Inside the carriage, look for the Emissary Seal. This will begin the quest.
From that point, just keep progressing the main campaign until you reach Chapter 5. If you are further in the campaign and didn’t collect the Seal, you can always return and grab it.
2. Find the Emissary’s Letter After Slaughtermill
The next stage of the quest’s progression takes place in Chapter 5, in the Vale of Wrath. Again, just keep progressing until you reach the Slaughtermill Boss. Defeat it and then descend from the platform to enter the tunnel below.
Keep moving forward in the tunnel and keep an eye to your right. You will find the Emissary Letter lying there. Collect it, and you are done with this part of the quest. Now, just keep progressing through the campaign until Chapter 9.
3. Unlock Shield Transmutation at the University
In Chapter 9, you unlock Shield Transmutation. You will find it in the University. You don’t have to worry about missing this Transmutation, as it’s a core part of the progression and you will end up finding it.
Once you’ve unlocked the ability, return to The Other Side Lantern by fast traveling from any Lantern.
Go back to the same carriage mentioned in Step 1, and use Shield Transmutation to cross the poisonous area.
4. Investigate the Hidden Camp in the Valley of Ashes
Follow the path through the poisonous area and descend toward the abandoned camp. Keep following the path, and you will find a note on the ground. Keep following the path again, and you will see a body.
Interacting with the body triggers a fight against a corrupted Risen Soldier. It’s a miniboss, but it can be quite challenging. Just watch out for the firing squad he summons during the fight; they will make quick work of you. The rest of the fight revolves around parrying the soldier’s attacks and finding openings to deal damage.
After defeating the miniboss, keep exploring until you see a gate with two flags. At that gate, you will find a red cloth; interact with it, and it will complete the quest.
Keep following the route till you see a flashback. Behind it will be an orange glob that you can shoot to get access to a chest containing the Perfect Copy Amber. This Amber is quite powerful as it increases the rank of your equipped Tier 1 and Tier 2 Ambers.

The Emissary is a long-running side quest in Valor Mortis, so don’t expect to finish it immediately after finding the abandoned carriage. Start by collecting the Emissary’s Seal in Chapter 2, then pick up the Emissary’s Letter after defeating Slaughtermill in Chapter 5.
If you’re still early in the game, there’s no need to worry about the poisonous area just yet. Keep progressing through the main story, and you’ll eventually obtain everything you need to complete The Emissary.
