Should You Change the Mt. Corel Mine Cart Tracks in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth? – Answered (FF7)

This is the most fun Barret's gonna have in Corel

Yuffie’s terrified of the mine cart ride in Mt. Corel’s coal mine, perhaps for good reason. Here’s whether you should switch the mine cart tracks in Mt. Corel in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Should You Pick Yuffie or Barret’s Preference for the Mount Corel Mine Cart Ride in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?

Once you reach the top of the Coal Mines and lower the bridge, it’s up to Cloud to set the pathway Yuffie and the rest of the gang will take. And as you reach the lever, you’ll find you have two options. You can keep it as it’s currently set, which is Barret’s preference, or switch the tracks for a smoother ride. That’s Yuffie’s preference. But does it matter?

Well, yes. If you opt to keep the rail the same, your relationship with Barret will deepen. And with so many of the side quests being more Tifa and Aerith-focused, this is a great way to boost your relationship with our favorite environmental terrorist. But if you pull the lever and change the tracks, Yuffie’s relationship with you will increase.

However, there’s a way to get the best of both worlds. And that’s by keeping the track the same but performing well in the minigame that kicks off once Barret, Yuffie, and Tifa ride the mine cart down. This minigame requires you to aim with Barret’s gun using the left joystick and pressing Square to shoot the boxes around the tracks. Periodically, you’ll also get a prompt to press Triangle, meaning Yuffie can use her attacks to destroy boxes too.

If you destroy enough boxes, your relationship with both Barret and Yuffie will deepen. And the minigame is very forgiving with its scoring. The trick to succeeding is to always be holding the Square button, as shooting doesn’t slow your cursor, and using your time as Cloud on the tracks to memorize where the piles of boxes are. While you won’t be able to see all the boxes on the track, you’ll get a good sense of what to expect when you’re shooting as Barret.

And with that done, you’re just a few meters away from North Corel and your first shot at a Revival Materia.
