Remember, the game assigns a unique Operator to each team member, so there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to play as your favorite. For this reason, we suggest familiarizing yourself with everyone.

SAS Operator Sledge – Attacker

  • Armor: Medium
  • Speed: Medium
  • Primary Weapons: 591A1 Shotgun, L85A2
  • Secondary Weapons: Mac 11, 226 MK 25
  • Generic Gadgets: Breach Charge, Frag Grenade
  • Unique Gadget: Tactical Breaching Hammer (AKA The Caber)

Armed with his Tactical Breaching Hammer, Sledge is able to bust through almost any barricade in the game. This lets him create new entry points for his teammates. We imagine that once you see “The Caber” in action, the standard Breach Charge won’t seem nearly as appealing.

SAS Operator Thatcher

  • Armor: Medium
  • Speed: Medium
  • Primary Weapons: L85A2, K33
  • Secondary Weapons: 226 MK 25
  • Generic Gadget: Breach Charge, Stun Grenade
  • Unique Gadget: EMP Grenade

Thatcher is decently balanced, making him a good character for newcomers. Although he can make some noise with the Breach Charge, his EMP Grenade disables enemy electronics, leaving opponents in the dark.

SAS Operator Mule

  • Armor: Medium
  • Speed: Medium
  • Primary Weapons: MP5K, 591A1
  • Secondary Weapons: 226 MK 25
  • Generic Gadget: Deployable Shield, Nitro Cell
  • Unique Gadget: MONI (GC90 Signal Disrupter)

Mule’s job is to prevent Attackers from finding the objective. For this, he has the MONI, a Signal Disrupter that protects against Breach Charges and scrambles Drones that the Attackers normally deploy at the start of a round.

SAS Operator Smoke

  • Armor: Medium
  • Speed: Medium
  • Primary Weapons: FMG-9, 591A1
  • Secondary Weapons: 226 MK 25, Mac 11
  • Generic Gadget: Barbed Wire, Nitro Cell
  • Special Gadget: Compound Z8

What is Compound Z8? Answer: easily one of the coolest gadgets in Rainbow Six Siege. When Smoke throws this item, it unleashes gas the player can remote detonate. It’s perfect for when you’re in the objective room and need to buy some time. Throw this sucker outside the room to disorient Attackers so they rush in unprepared, or hang back while the timer counts down.
