Sour Grapes is a quest in Mirthwood that you have only one shot at getting right. There are a number of ways the quest can end, and to get the best ending possible, you need to follow your nose and put all the clues together correctly. Sour Grapes is like a whodunnit sort of quest, and your deductions are final. You don’t get another shot if you get it wrong.
If you want to know how to get the Sour Grapes quest right, we have everything you need to know in this Mirthwood guide.
Where to Find the Sour Grapes Quest in Mirthwood
The Sour Grapes quest takes place in the Vinter’s Vale Winery along the northern edge of the Old Forest. To get there, head through the east gate of your farm and make your way over the north bridge leading out of the Blue Meadows. Pass the Abandoned Tower and the Old Forest Campsite, and you will find yourself at the Vinter’s Vale Winery.
Speak to Godfrey at the Winery to begin the quest. Some of Godfrey’s precious wine has gone sour, and he believes someone close to him may have tampered with it. It is your job to speak to all three suspects and investigate the Winery to deduce who the wine saboteur is.
How to Solve the Sour Grapes Quest in Mirthwood
There are three suspects to speak to:
- Emeric
- Eloise
- Bran
Eloise is Godfrey’s wife, Bran works at the Vinter’s Vale Winery, and Emeric is Eloise and Godfrey’s son. Speak to all three suspects and exhaust all dialogue options with them. Each suspect has a clue in their responses that you can piece together to solve the crime.
Eloise mentions how Godfrey only cares about his wine. Bran mentions that Emeric spends a lot of time around the wine. And Emeric mentions how he resents his father for only caring about his wine.
Next, you will have to investigate the farm a little bit. There are three locations of interest:
- The hedge maze
- The cabin
- The wine barrels
The hedge maze is on the right side of the winery. Head into the center to find a letter outlining someone’s plan to use Elderberries to spoil the wine. There is also a Fabled Feather here, so don’t forget to pick that up before moving on!
There is another note in the cabin on the right side of the winery, which appears to be where Bran stays while working there. The note explains how he feels content with the way he’s treated and paid at the winery and also details how Godfrey is away a lot.
The wine barrels are at the back of the winery. Interact with them to see that they have been tampered with. That confirms Godfrey’s suspicions that someone messed with the wine on purpose, rather than the whole situation being an honest mistake or that the wolves got into it as Eloise believes.
Now that you have all the clues, you can start putting them together to determine the culprit’s identity.
Sour Grapes Quest Solution
With all the clues you’ve collected so far, you can deduce that Emeric is the culprit. Eloise obviously had nothing to do with it, as she thought the wolves were to blame. Bran is happy in his position, so he has no motive.
Emeric, however, is Godfrey’s son, and he feels like his dad is paying too much attention to his wine and not enough attention to him. He mentions that if something happened to the wine, maybe his dad would pay more attention to him.
Head back to Godfrey and tell him Emeric is to blame for the wine being sour. Godfrey admits that he isn’t there for his son as much as he should be, leaving the quest on a positive note. Hopefully, Godfrey can now pay a little more attention to Emeric, and everyone will be happy. You will get +5 Renown for correctly solving the crime of the sour wine.
