The Mounts of Mayhem update is slated to release sometime before the end of 2025. An official release date for this update hasn’t been revealed yet, but all images that have been shared for it on the official Minecraft website feature the phrase “holidaydrop2025” in their names, revealing that it’s slated for release sometime in November or December.

Although this update isn’t officially out yet, there are snapshot and beta versions of it you can play now to test out most of the new features before they launch.

All Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem Update Features

As the name hints, the Mounts of Mayhem update is primarily focused on adding new ways to get around in Minecraft. There’s plenty to enjoy outside of this feature, too, though, so here’s a full breakdown of everything we know about this update so far.

Nautilus

The overall biggest addition featured in this update is the Nautilus, an underwater mob that allows you to explore the ocean like never before. This helpful creature can be tamed and ridden so you can glide around the ocean floor with ease.

You can tame a Nautilus with Pufferfish, its favorite food. While riding a Nautilus, you have endless oxygen thanks to the Breath of the Nautilus effect, which means there’s no need to return to the surface for air.

Zombie Nautilus

Not all Nautiluses you encounter are all that friendly, as there’s also the Zombie Nautilus swimming around the ocean. It’s a neutral mob, but the favorite companion of the Drowned, which means they’re generally foes you’ll want to watch out for and eliminate.

Nautilus Armor

There are many dangers lurking under the seas, so it’s a good idea to equip your ocean friend with some Nautilus Armor. This useful gear comes in five varieties, including copper, iron, gold, diamond, and Netherite. Similar to Horse Armor, it can sometimes be found in chests.

The Spear

A new way to fight, both on foot and while mounted, arrives with this update. The Spear allows you to perform quick jab attacks to keep enemies at a distance and deal damage on foot, or mount up and get running to increase your damage output at greater speed. The faster you’re traveling, the more damage you’ll do.

Like most weapons, Spears can be crafted using a variety of materials. This includes wood, gold, stone, copper, iron, diamond, and Netherite. This weapon can be made at a crafting table using one of your desired materials and two sticks placed in a diagonal formation.

Lunge Enchantment

If you’re looking for a way to make your already deadly Spear a bit more powerful, you can use the Lunge Enchantment to enhance it. It’s a Spear exclusive Enchantment, so it can only be applied to this weapon. With this Enchantment, you can jab forward horizontally, dealing massive damage to those in your path.

Zombie Horses

Zombie Horses are finally free from being stuck in creative mode and can now be found wandering the world in survival mode, too. These unique creatures can be found wandering around the Plains and Savanna biomes. They’re a passive mob, but their Zombie riders are hostile. You can kill their riders to free them and make them fully passive again.

Parched

The Parched is a new hostile mob you may encounter while exploring deserts. These foes are essentially Skeleton variants, so you can expect them to fire at you with Bows as usual. They are one of two mobs you’ll encounter riding Camel Husks, with the other mob being Husks.

Camel Husk

Yet another way to traverse around is the Camel Husk, an eerie variant of the usual Camel. Although this mob is passive and won’t attack you on its own, those who ride it are definitely hostile, so watch out when you encounter one. You can vanquish the enemies riding it to befriend this creature, as they’ll automatically be tamed when you do.

Swimming Mounts

All old mounts that existed prior to the Mounts of Mayhem update aren’t getting left behind. This update adds the ability for mounts to swim at a slow but steady pace. Prior to this change, mobs like Horses refused to traverse water, which made getting around extremely tough. Now, they’ll go right through it as long as you’re there to guide them.

There are likely more features in this update that will be revealed as it gets closer to release. As any new details are unveiled, we’ll add them here. While you wait for the update to arrive, you might want to learn how to repair Tridents, where to find Armadillos, and how to make Wolf Armor.
