Marvel Rivals Season 5 Patch Notes – Gambit, Rogue, Nerfs and Buffs, New Team-Ups, and More

Power, cards, and pure chaos.

Season five of Marvel Rivals is just around the corner, and fellow X-Men fans, we’re in for a treat. Two legendary mutants are finally stepping into the fight, and there are plenty of other exciting additions to look forward to as well.

We see smaller updates for Marvel Rivals fairly frequently, but it’s these big seasonal updates that bring massive waves of fresh content to explore. There’s a lot packed into this one, including two of my own personal favorite heroes, so if you want to make sure you know everything it includes, here are the patch notes for season five of Marvel Rivals, arriving on Nov. 14.

Here’s everything that has been revealed for season five of Marvel Rivals so far. As any new details are unveiled, we’ll add them here, so you can check back regularly to ensure you’re up to date with what to expect.

New Strategist Hero – Gambit

The card-slinging, smooth-talking hero Gambit is the first new character joining the battle this season, and he’s set to be a Strategist. His powers allow him to charge inanimate objects with energy, which usually results in precise explosive attacks, but also provides healing to his allies in Rivals. Although he can charge up all kinds of objects, cards are always his go-to.

We’re in desperate need of more Strategists, so a Strategist version of Gambit is certainly a welcome surprise, especially considering it’s been over half a year since the last Strategist (Ultron), and nearly a year since an actually good one (Invisible Woman). He’s officially set to launch with the start of season five on Nov. 14.

New Hero – Rogue

The power-absorbing mutant Rogue is the second of the two heroes diving into battle in season five. Her abilities are going to be especially interesting to see implemented, as her powers essentially allow her to temporarily copy the abilities of other heroes.

Since she’s the second character arriving in the season, she won’t debut until December, which means we don’t know anything about her official role or skillset so far. Based on the season five trailer, where she appears to have a similar build to Emma Frost, and Rogue’s general abilities, I think she’s most likely going to be a Vanguard. Her size in some art looks a bit smaller, though, so it’s also entirely possible she’ll be a Strategist or Duelist. Personally, I’m hoping for either Vanguard or Strategist, but we won’t know for sure until she’s closer to release.

Gambit and Rogue are one of the most iconic couples in the X-Men, and are rarely seen far from each other. It makes perfect sense that they’re diving into battle together, although we do technically have to wait a bit for them to reunite since Gambit is arriving when the season first launches, and Rogue won’t be released for a month afterward since she’s part of the 5.5 update.

New Team-Ups and Team-Up Changes

There are three entirely new Team-Ups arriving in the first half of season five:

  • Gambit is the anchor of the new Explosive Entanglement Team-Up with Magneto. In this collaboration, he charges Magneto’s greatsword with kinetic energy, replacing Magneto’s primary attack with a launching kinetic greatsword that explodes on impact.
  • Cloak & Dagger act as the anchor for the Sword of Duality Team-Up with Hawkeye. This duo empowers Hawkeye’s katana with light and dark energy. When he uses his Crescent Slash, it knocks enemies back and fires a light and dark energy wave that passes through both allies and enemies, healing and buffing teammates while damaging and applying anti-heal to enemies.
  • Moon Knight is the anchor of the Blade of Khonshu Team-Up with Blade. With this Team-Up, Khonshu’s power blesses and protects Blade, allowing him to dash forward and slash enemies with the Sword of Dracula. At the end of the dash, he unleashes many quick sword strikes that launch a moon blade projectile that bounces and damages foes.

In addition to new Team-Ups, there are also several changes to existing ones.

  • Lunar Force (Cloak & Dagger + Blade/Moon Knight) and Operation Microchip (Black Widow + The Punisher) are being retired.
  • Magneto is being removed from Mental Projection (Emma Frost + Psylocke).
  • Hawkeye is being removed from Chilling Assault (Luna Snow + Iron Fist).
  • Black Widow is joining Primal Flame (Phoenix + Wolverine/Black Widow).

New Mode

A new 18 vs. 18 Conquest Annihilation mode is arriving in this season. It’s not launching right away with Gambit’s release, and instead is arriving on Nov. 27. There’s also a special new map, called Grand Garden, to go with it.

New Maps

A new, non-combat Times Square map is arriving in season five. This map can host up to 100 players at once, and is meant to be a community space where everyone can relax, emote, and chat together in peace. There will also be a new Grand Garden map, although this one seems like it might be separate from the regular map rotation schedule, too.

Cross-Progression

The cross-progression feature has been teased for a while and is finally arriving with season five. This will allow you to play on the same account across all platforms, saving your progress regardless of where you choose to play.

Competitive Changes

Season five will see the introduction of a placement system for Competitive. This means your rank will no longer reset to a fixed tier, as you’ll now play 10 placement matches to determine your starting rank. The more you win, the closer you’ll start off to your previous season’s rank. If you manage to be undefeated, you can go even higher.

Some team queue improvements are part of this update, too, allowing teams where everyone is Grandmaster or lower to queue with teams of two, three, four, or six players. If anyone in your team is Celestial, Eternity, or top 500, your team size is capped at two players.

Nameplate Frames and Crests of Honor are no longer split into two across the first and second halves of the season, as there is now only one set of rewards for the full season. These prizes will be granted after season 5.5 ends.

New Battle Pass
