Where is Bats in Marvel Rivals?
In Marvel Rivals, Bats—the ghostly dog companion of Doctor Strange—can only be found in the foyer of the Sanctum Sanctorum map. This unique map blends indoor and outdoor settings, with Doctor Strange’s magical portals seamlessly connecting its various areas.
To access the Sanctum Sanctorum map, the straightforward option is to play the Doom Match mode. Since this mode is time-limited, you will want to prioritize exploring and locating Bats while it is available, as both the map and the mode might be removed in future updates.
Alternatively, you can access the Sanctum Sanctorum map through the Custom Game Mode. To do this, select “Create,” then choose the Sanctum Sanctorum map. This approach lets you explore without interference from other players, giving you a relaxed opportunity to find Bats and enjoy the interaction with the charming ghost dog.
Who is Bats?
Bats, Doctor Strange’s loyal pet, was first introduced in the Doctor Strange comics in 2017. What sets this basset hound apart is that Doctor Strange cast a spell on him, enabling him to communicate more effectively with humans—especially with Strange himself.
Tragically, Bats’ life was cut short following an encounter with Loki. However, his story did not end there. Bats returned as a ghostly hound, roaming the halls of the Sanctum Sanctorum and now able to communicate with humans.
NetEase highlighted this unique character in Marvel Rivals, where several heroes can have brief conversations with Bats when they encounter him in the Sanctum Sanctorum. While not widely known among players, the popularity of Marvel Rivals is bound to make Bats a celebrated part of the story over time.
How to Find and Talk to Bats in Marvel Rivals?
Bats, the ghostly dog in Marvel Rivals, does not stay in one fixed spot. Instead, he roams throughout the Sanctum Sanctorum map, primarily inside the building rather than in the outdoor street areas. You might spot him near the stairs flanked by corridors or under Doctor Strange’s painting, where he is depicted holding Bats, close to a sofa and a lamp table.
Interestingly, Bats may even approach you after your character dies and respawns, whether as the same character or a new one.
NOTE: During our testing with 20 characters, we noticed that Thor, Jeff, Spider-Man, and Squirrel Girl are among the few who engage in conversations with Bats.
There is no interaction button that you can press to trigger having a conversation with Bats. When you get close enough, Bats or your character will automatically begin talking. For example, in one instance while playing the Doom Game Mode, we noticed that Thor immediately started conversing with Bats while battling a Winter Soldier foe, as seen in the image above.
However, with characters like Squirrel Girl, Jeff, and Spider-Man, the conversations took a bit longer to trigger. But rest assured, they did happen eventually.
There might be additional characters who have unique, scripted conversations with Bats. We will update this guide as we discover more. For now, these four are confirmed to have interactions with the ghostly companion.
How to Unlock A Hounding Conversation Achievement in Marvel Rivals?
The A Hounding Conversation achievement in Marvel Rivals is unlocked by initiating a conversation with the Bats using any eligible character.
This achievement was introduced in Season 1: Eternal Night Falls. Above, we have listed the characters you can use to interact with Bats and unlock the A Hounding Conversation achievement in Marvel Rivals.
The best part is that you do not need to complete the match on the Sanctum Sanctorum map to make progress. As long as you have had the conversation with the Bats, you can exit the match, and it will still count. Once you return to the main lobby, a notification will pop up on the right side of your screen. From there, head to the Achievements section to claim your reward points for completing A Hounding Conversation.
