Dynasty Warriors: Origins is an impressive showcase on PC, taking the Katana Engine further by supporting modern graphical technologies and offering excellent performance across the board. It’s already the most successful launch in the series on Steam, and it’s clear that KOEI TECMO values the platform to put so much effort into the port. There are some minor issues, however, and if pre-rendered cutscenes aren’t playing for you in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, here is how you can fix that.
Fixing the Dynasty Warriors Origins No Cutscenes Issue
Aside from in-game cinematics, Dynasty Warriors: Origins has multiple high-quality pre-rendered cutscenes that play out at different parts of the story and missions. If you’re on PC and are wondering why you haven’t seen any, it’s because your Windows versions lack the necessary codecs to play those in-game.
Download the VP9 Extensions
You can download the required VP9 Video Extensions directly from the Microsoft Store. Just hit “Install” and these will be downloaded and installed automatically. After that, all pre-rendered cutscenes should play normally.
Previous KOEI TECMO releases like Fate/Samurai Remnant also had this requirement so it’s a common trend with their PC releases. That’s all there is to it, and the developers have addressed it on Steam forums as well, confirming the cause.
Set the Desktop Scale to 100%
The developers also recommend that players set the scale and layout of their Windows desktop to 100%.
- Right-click on your desktop, and select Display settings
- Set “Scale and layout” to 100%.

Outside of that, you can go through our recommended list of troubleshooting tips to ensure everything is in order on your end.
- Update DirectX and Visual C++ Redistributables (Recommended)
- Update Windows to the latest version
- Update GPU Drivers: NVIDIA – AMD – Intel
- Update your BIOS, especially if you’re using an Intel 13th or 14th-generation processor
- Switch to your dedicated GPU if you’re playing on a laptop
Once you have the cutscenes issue sorted, if you also can’t seem to save the game, we have detailed a few fixes for that as well. Be sure to check out our review for a detailed look at the latest entry in the series and how it shakes up the formula.
