Lotad Pokemon Sword and Shield Location Guide

Lotad is probably the most adorable sentient lilypad that we’ve ever come across. We have incredibly fond (and hilarious) memories of surfing on our Lotads in Pokemon Sapphire. Yes, it was likely physically impossible, but that didn’t stop us from being able to do it at all. RIP to all of our fallen Lotads out there – you served us well.

Fast forward to Pokemon Sword and Shield, and it looks like the rampant exploitation of lilypads has had to take a bit of a backseat. Lotads are now Pokemon Shield exclusive, which means that only some of you are going to be able to find them organically in the wild in some locations when the weather conditions are either Overcast, Raining, Thunderstorm, or Heavy Fog. Given that the Pokemon’s Dex entry says that “if it does not drink water for too long, the leaf on its head wilts,” we’re not surprised that it prefers slightly damper conditions compared to most. Here are the two places that you can reliably find Lotads in Pokemon Shield.

  1. Route 2
  2. West Lake Axewell

Lotads appear with a decent amount of frequency on Route 2 so that would be our recommendation if you’re looking to scoop one up. Of course, the draw would be getting your Lotad to a Lombre at Level 14 and then to a Ludicolo, but you’re going to need a Water Stone for that eventual final evolution. Of course, Pokemon Sword players can acquire Lotads too, but only via trading them with someone who caught one in Shield.

Now that you’ve got our Lotad Pokemon Sword and Shield location guide to hand, it should be easy for you to snag one of your own. Need help with anything else in your Galarian adventures? Check out the following tips and tricks that we’ve put together:
