Can You Disable Ray Tracing in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle? – Answered

id Tech 7 does not disappoint!

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was developed on id Tech 7, and the last major release on that engine was DOOM Eternal. The base release of DOOM Eternal did not have any form of ray tracing but this was later patched in for some massive visual improvements, especially in terms of reflections. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, however, has launched with ray tracing and also supports path tracing, which automatically makes it a pretty demanding title. However, can you disable ray tracing in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle? Here is everything you need to know.

Can You Disable Ray Tracing in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle?

No, you can’t disable ray tracing in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The game is developed with ray tracing in mind, and there is no way around it. You need hardware that supports ray tracing, which is why an RTX 2060 Super and RX 6600 are listed as the minimum GPUs required to run the title.

This means that a lot of systems will simply not be able to launch the title, and you’ll get an error at launch indicating that you’re “missing Vulkan device extensions”, which essentially means you don’t have a GPU capable of hardware ray tracing.

There is no way to bypass this requirement, at least at the moment. Other releases like Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and more recently, Star Wars Outlaws also use ray tracing for their presentation, and also don’t run on non-RT hardware.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle System Requirements

As stated clearly in the system requirements, “GPU Hardware Ray Tracing Required” is mentioned even in the Minimum column.

There is some good news, however. Even though ray tracing hardware is required, the actual port itself runs quite well. There are tons of settings to adjust, and the overall frame pacing is quite smooth. This is one of those games that will look really nice no matter what settings you play it at, which is why as intimidating as the requirements are, most users with ray tracing hardware should have a decent experience with some adjustments.

id Tech 7 continues to impress us with its incredible level of detail and excellent optimization. If you’re on PC right now, you can back up your local progress of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle by accessing the save file location.
