How to Start the In Vino Veritas Side Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
After you are free to explore the Kuttenberg region and get to Kuttenburg City, you will find an NPC selling wine just north of the water fountain. The NPC is named Casper Rudolf, a vineyard owner and wine seller whose business is not doing well. Talk to him and agree to help him to start the In Vino Veritas side quest.
Casper will ask you to talk to his competitor, Havel, and ask him to reveal the secret to his recipe. You can go straight to the innkeeper Havel and talk to him, or first get Casper’s book and study the know-how of wines before you try to impress Havel with your knowledge.
How to Get the Book from Adleta in the In Vino Veritas Side Quest (Optional)
To get the book, you need to go to Adleta and convince her to give it to you. However, getting to her is difficult as you either have to pass the speech check with her brother, Hugo, to let you get into the garden or climb the guard tower and drop to the back side of the garden.
When you speak with Adleta, she will be hesitant to give you the book, and you will have to convince her. If you pass the Persuasion speech check, she will give you the book right away. If that fails, you can choose to become her friend. For that, you will need to get her something that matches her dress.
In the garden, pick 5x Marigolds and give them to her as a gift. She will then give you the book in exchange for your gift. Once you have Sir Bushek’s vintner wisdom book, make sure you read it before going to Havel.
How to Make an Impression on Havel in the In Vino Veritas Side Quest
Now, go to the northern part of the city at the Emperor Charles Tavern, where you will find Havel inside. Go talk to Havel and sit with him, where then he will ask you some questions that will affect your reputation with him.
Make sure you are wearing noble clothes that boost your charisma to the point where Havel will agree to speak with you. If you are dirty, covered in blood, or look like a peasant, Havel will not even acknowledge you.
When you sit down with him, make sure you reply with the following answers:
- Germany
- Steinberger
- It’s missing ginger
Only these responses will guarantee your chance of getting any information out of him regarding the secret.
Now that you have the required information, head back to Casper and tell him everything. You can hand him the book you got from Adleta or keep it to yourself.
How to Get Inside the Vineyard in the In Vino Veritas Side Quest
Casper tells you to learn more about the secret incense and for that, you will need to get access to the vineyard. If you ask him how to get into the vineyard, you will get the optional objective find work at the vineyard.
You now have the option to sneak inside the vineyard at night and get the secret incense, or you can complete the optional objective and get a job at the vineyard to get easy access to all the areas. If you sneak inside, it will be considered trespassing, and you will be reported to the guards and thrown out if caught.
The easier route is to take the job. All you need to do is talk to the recruiter at the gate of the vineyard. It will start the Under the Straw Hat task, which you can complete right away or ignore, if you’d like, since it is not required to complete the rest of the quest.
Under the Straw Hat Task (Optional)
The task entails introducing yourself to Administrator Jerome, who is responsible for all the work in the monastery. He will show you around and tell you how all the work is done.
You can also rob Jerome and get the keys to the wine cellar, which will be useful later in the quest.
How to Get the Secret Incense in the In Vino Veritas Side Quest
You’ll need to come back the next day to start your job at the vineyard. You will have access to all the private areas in the monastery at this point, and you can complete all the tasks or ignore them and focus on getting the secret incense.
To learn the secret incense is, you need to get to the wine cellar inside the Central Building. As you enter the building from the main entrance, go to the left and keep going straight. This leads you to the wine cellar, which is considered trespassing and will get you into trouble if caught, so be cautious.
Inside the cellar, you will need a lockpick if you didn’t pickpocket the keys off of Administer Jerome. Either way, open the door and enter.
Inside this room you’ll find a chest with Sulphur Wicks inside. This is the secret insense you’re looking for. Grab all of them and get out of the cellar.
Get Seedlings for Casper (Optional)
Another optional objective is to get five Wine Seedlings for Casper before you head back to him. To get to the seedlings, enter the Central Building and go straight. Open the door to get to the area where you will find the seedlings. The area is off-limits as well, so be careful of the guards when you enter the area.
Go to the right to find six Wine Seedlings in the ground. Pick five of them and head back out without getting seen.
Now that you have the secret to the wine, take it back to Casper and give it to him. He will reward you with 150x Groschens and Life in the Tavern IV book. However, if you also give him the wine seedlings, he will give you 425x Groschens.
