How to Unlock New Characters

Unlocking new characters in Super Mario Run isn’t nearly as hard as you’d think it is. While each character has a special requirement that must be met, once you’ve met that requirement, the character will unlock and you can choose them from the level launch screen. We’ve outlined each character below, as well as the information that we know about each one so far, so take a look to see what you need to know.

Mario

Unlocked by default, the red plumber, Mario, is the first character that you’ll get to play as. You don’t have to do anything to unlock him. Just choose the level you want to play, and hop in.

Luigi

To unlock Mario’s brother you’ll have to unlock a special building for your Mushroom Kingdom. This building, aptly named ‘Luigi’s House’ will unlock the green plumber so that you can use him to play through the various levels in Super Mario Run. To build this house you’ll need 150 Green Toads and 150 Purple Toads.

Princess Peach

The beloved pink princess is also a character that can be unlocked in Super Mario Run. To unlock her, make your way through the World Tour mode and save her from the clutches of Mario’s arch nemesis, Bowser. Once you have completed the World Tour, she’ll automatically unlock in the character roster.

Yoshi

Players can unlock Mario’s trusty sidekick the same way that they unlocked Luigi. Instead of needing to build Luigi’s house, though, you’ll have to build a Yoshi-themed building in your Kingdom. This house costs 30 Red Toads and 30 Yellow Toads. Once it’s built, Yoshi will unlock and appear in your character choice screen when you go to start a level in World Tour.

Toadette

Unlocking Toadette works just like Yoshi and Luigi. To unlock Toadette’s House you will have to save up quite a few Toads. This one costs 200 Red Toads, 200 Blue Toads, 200 Green Toads, 200 Purple Toads, and 200 Yellow Toads.

Toad

Toad is by far the easiest character to unlock in Super Mario Run, as you’ll only need to link your My Nintendo account to the game to unlock him. It’s really simple to do, unless you’ve forgotten your password, so go ahead and do it before you dive too deep into the game.

You should also know that each character offers a differnent perk. For example, while Mario is a slower character to play as, he can use Mushrooms to grow bigger, allowing you to take a hit before you die and use a Bubble. Toad is faster, but if he takes any hits, he loses a Bubble. We’ll update the guide with more details as they are revealed, so be check back often.

That’s everything you need to know to unlock all the characters in Super Mario Run. Head back over to our Super Mario Run guide for more details about the new game.
