How to Win Without Taking Damage in Death Must Die

Neo Matrix Mode On, I guess?

Currently, the penultimate achievement in Death Must Die, completed by the least amount of players, does not need to be frustrating and difficult. Here’s how to win an attempt without taking damage in Death Must Die.

How to Get the Ghost Matter Achievement in Death Must Die

Here is the list of prerequisites, or rather, failsafe methods, that will make your life a lot easier in winning without taking damage and getting the Ghost Matter achievement.

1. Git Gud at Death Must Die

Sounds toxic, but other failsafe methods cannot push you to the finish line. Practice the following:

  • Movement – Try to stay away from groups of enemies and try to always have a clear escape path in order not to receive more attacks than you absolutely must
  • Using Dash to dodge attacks – Try to learn the attack rhythms of all enemies. You will notice that all attacks are telegraphed with red color. You can dodge some attacks by just walking out of the range, while for some, you will need to use the dash. If there need be, let all of the different enemies attack you and damage you, so that you can better learn how their attacks work.

And, reduce your difficulty, will you?

2. Get the Right Character and Items

You might feel that it’s not relevant which character you choose for this challenge because if you take even one point of damage, the challenge is failed, but you’d be dead wrong. I have done this challenge with Nixi and taken all the Evade stats I could. Eventually, I stacked up 66.8% evade chance. You must admit that automatically dodging two out of three attacks you do not manage to outmaneuver on your own are pretty great odds and a decent failsafe.

3. Get the Right Gods for the Best Defensive Boons.

Lady Justice has the best Boon / Blessing for you here:

  • Divine Shield is a MUST here. It prevents one instance of damage from heading your way. You can reduce the cooldown of this ability, and it will certainly be an instrumental part of you conquering this challenge. Banish everything else she offers. When your shield is shattered, get away from combat to allow it time to regenerate. Remember, we’re running a marathon, not a 100m sprint.

Time God is not GOATed for defensive purposes, but it’s a strong second place (don’t forget Gem High, which will push your damage up a lot):

  • Time Field will slow down time in a bubble around you. Make sure to level it up to reduce its cooldown, and especially make sure you are picking up spell duration and area buffs as well because that increases the duration and size of the bubble. Within this bubble, you will have a much easier time dodging the attacks coming your way.

Winter is very useful, as she grants you many abilities that freeze enemies around you, either slowing them down significantly or rendering them unable to attack at all. I do not see a bad boon/blessing here. Pick stuff based on your current situation and stage.

Lastly, I want to discuss Mort, which would be brilliant if you get Mayhem very early, so that it can stack up nicely. Then, you don’t need Winter.

Fourth God will always be Moirai, and you should get Elusion from them as soon as possible to give yourself just a little more margin…

That’s all, the rest is up to you, your focus, and your patience. Do not be afraid to restart a 1-2 minute run if you get the bad powerups. Pick your fights carefully and have patience.

It might look like a hardcore or elite achievement to complete, but it doesn’t have to be. If I am being honest, it took me about two hours to achieve it.
