How to Use Trains in Satisfactory: Train Guide

Finally, a train system.

One of Satisfactory’s most sought-after endgame features is the train system. You can build your own trains to connect multiple bases if you ever built another base in a different biome. Trains are the main way to transfer resources and get around areas that are extremely far away. It requires a lot of resources, including power, so you should always use trains when needed. Here’s how you can build and use trains in Satisfactory.

How to Build Trains in Satisfactory

To unlock and use trains, you need to have trains unlocked in tier 6. You’ll unlock the Train Station and other supporting crafts like Freight Platforms. The Train Station requires the following ingredients:

  • 4x Heavy Modular Frame
  • 8x Computer
  • 50x Concrete
  • 25x Cable

I suggest building the Train Station and railways on foundations because they can get clunky on uneven terrain. You want to build the Train Station in the most optimal position in your base to get materials. Then, you must slowly build railways toward your planned destinations for the train or, basically, your planned train route.

Once the Train Station and railways are constructed, you still need an Electric Locomotive to run the train manually. You can attach multiple Freight Cars behind the Electric Locomotive, so you have storage to transfer your materials.

How to Effectively Use Trains in Satisfactory

Next, you must power up the trains, including the railway, with a power line. After these are all set up, you can manually run the train to your destination. Go inside the Electric Locomotive and drive the train. You’ll see new controls to navigate the train, but you also want to press “W” to move straight to the railway you built.

Now, you can also build another Electric Locomotive at the destination point of the train, which allows you to switch to the other end and return to the previous destination. This is a great way to transfer resources from one place to another if you have one straight path. Use your map to determine the most optimal route as you will surely create more Train Station and eventually automate it. Remember, you can blow up rocks and boulders to make a clear path for your foundations and railways.

Again, the longer the train station, the more power your train system will need. So, the best way to help manage your power is to have a good Oil setup for Fuel Generators and have other sources of power on your other bases or stations.

Once you have these set, you’ll have a train system that can transfer large quantities of items. The Freight Platforms can automate your loading and unloading systems at each station. This will surely be a long project since you’ll undoubtedly use this feature for most things after tier 6. It is also worth mentioning that adding more Freight Cars to carry more load will slow down the train. So, this train system will always have limitations if you think of something more grandeur.
