How to Use A Rangefinder in Escape From Tarkov

Using a Rangefinder in Escape From Tarkov, specifically the Vortex Ranger 1500 Rangefinder—the most common and easily accessible device in its class—proves relatively simple. Once you purchase or loot a Rangefinder, equip it to an inventory slot on your hotbar (I recommend #4 for easy access) and hit the hotkey in-game.

With your Rangefinder in hand and pulled to your eye, scope out your intended target and allow the device to work its magic. The red LED numbers at the top of the viewfinder will detail the precise distance to your target, allowing you to better range your rifle appropriately before taking a shot.

How to Get a Rangefinder in Escape From Tarkov

Thankfully, scoring a Rangefinder in Escape From Tarkov is more accessible than using one. You can purchase one from Jaeger at LL1. It’s relatively inexpensive, though that solely depends on your stash and how much money you’ve accumulated.

Alternatively, you can loot them from military crates scattered about the various maps. You’ll want to find the green, rectangular crates or black-grey military boxes. These have the best chance of spawning a Rangefinder and other critical equipment.

Once you have a Rangefinder, I recommend tracking down a DVL-10 or M700 sniper rifle, which uses M80 ammunition, to help take down targets from impressive distances on almost any map. I must say, though, don’t bring one to Factory unless you’re specifically challenging yourself. It’s not worth losing your kit over!
