How to Upgrade the Shovel in Disney Dreamlight Valley

It's just a shovel how hard could it be

Upgrading the watering can was quite an endeavor. Upgrading the pickaxe was a bit of a pain as well. Upgrading the fishing rod, well, doesn’t seem to be a thing yet. But when it came time to upgrade the shovel, it was surprisingly easy. Maybe I did all that stuff in the wrong order. Or maybe videogames are just silly in that way. Either way, my suffering is your help, in theory. Here’s how to upgrade the shovel.

To upgrade the shovel in Disney Dreamlight Valley you’re going to need to unlock the Frozen Realm. To do that you need to go upstairs in the castle and give a whopping 4,000 Dreamlight Macguffins to the door in the middle. The other two doors literally don’t do anything, so it’s easy enough to find. That spits you out into the Frozen realm, where you’ll meet and perform menial tasks for Anna and Elsa.

Unlike the plot of Frozen 2, the quests here are relatively straightforward and relatively purposeful. There’s an angry tornado or something, so you have to craft some wind chimes to make the forest demons happy. Before that, Anna gives you some fireproof gloves and has you put out some fires with the watering can. The wind chimes are easy enough to craft, and Anna will join the village after that’s all done. Meet her back at home and get her to level 2 to unlock the quest, “An Icy Invitation.”

To proceed with this quest you’ll need to find a book Anna left in her house, which is over at the Forest of Valor. Kristoff lives there too, natch. The book includes a recipe for upgrading the shovel, which requires 10 softwood, 4 hardwood, 4 iron ingots and 3 tinkering parts. Super easy, especially with that small hardwood requirement. You get a new shovel blade from this recipe, which you just use from your inventory.

Congrats, you did all you needed for this one. After you power the shovel up you can clear those weird, mushroom-ridden stumps strewn throughout the Dreamlight Valley. If you’ve upgraded your pickaxe and watering can all the way as well, you’re all set with what’s currently available in the game. Now you can access much more real estate in the various biomes. Hooray and whatnot.
