How to Unlock the Military Courier’s Case in Dead Island 2

The Military Courier’s case is a nondescript black box sitting on the raised level just behind the white board that says “ATTENTION, Please remain calm, Your safety is our priority”.

But how do you get into it? Unfortunately, if you are encountering this case on your first visit to the Halperin Hotel, you have quite a long time to wait. Like with most of these locked caches, there is a specific zombie that carries the key, and it will only spawn under certain conditions. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.

You will have to wait until you have reached and completed the Monarch Studio portion of the story campaign and then received the side quest, Rav-Ages of Caustic-X, to start the process of getting this key to spawn.

Once you have completed that side story, you will leave the ballroom and there is a chance that the Military Courier will spawn in the Halperin Hotel lobby. He acts pretty much like a Runner zombie and will barrel towards you, though he is not particularly strong.

Once you have killed him, he will drop the Military Courier key, which conveniently goes to the nearby cache. But if the Military Courier did not spawn and you have completed the Rav-Ages of Caustic-X side quest, you may have to load into the Halperin Hotel again… and maybe again, if he does not spawn. It all boils down to luck, but it does seem as if he appears more frequently during daytime.
