A lot of developers nowadays tend to close off the option of controlling how many frames per second you can achieve on your monitor with your PC rig. There are different reasons behind this action, but PC gamers always try and find a way to modify a game to better suit their needs (especially if their PC can handle the advanced task set before it).
The Elder Scrolls Online is one of those titles that have the FPS limit capped, but there’s a way to unlock this limitation through some basic file editing in case you have a non-standard refresh rate monitor and wish to use the potential of it – whether it’s 75Hz, 120Hz, 144Hz, or 240Hz, or anything else, we’ve got you covered.
Because this action is not naturally made available through in-game options by the developer, please make sure to proceed with the editing of the files carefully and to copy the original files prior to any editing to a safe location outside of the game directory, since you would be doing the editing at your own risk and responsibility.

How to Increase the FPS limit in The Elder Scrolls Online
- Go to the folder: C:\Users\(YOUR PC NAME HERE)\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live.
- Search for the file named “UserSettings.txt” and open it.
- Scroll down manually or use the search/find function of the text editor to locate the row with “SET MinFrameTime.2” You will need to change the value of the number after the specified command. We’ve done some math to speed things up for you so depending on your monitor’s refresh rate you’ll need to put in the following values, but we’ll explain the math anyway:
- The value that you need to enter is equal to 1 divided by the Hz rate of your monitor. However, for example, if you have a 120Hz monitor, you should probably experiment with the value for the 144Hz refresh rate, just to give your rig some breathing space and stability while it’s trying to deliver the necessary FPS output for your game to run smoothly.
