How to Unlock and Craft Traits in Hogwarts Legacy

Get the loom ready.

On the surface of Hogwarts Legacy, there isn’t a lot of room for build diversity within the game, but Traits are the best way to create some unique combat opportunities. These items are used to increase damage on specific attacks or defense against certain enemies. They must be unlocked and crafted first, though.

Considering Traits are part of the armor that we use in the Wizarding World, it should come as no surprise that we need a magical loom to start using the buffs. In this guide, we’ll discuss how you can get the Enchanted Loom, unlock Traits, and craft them for your gear in Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy – How to Unlock and Craft Traits

Part one of this guide is the easiest, and that’s acquiring the Enchanted Loom. Simply playing through the main story will eventually lead you to “The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom” quest along with Deek. Complete this to unlock the Enchanted Loom in Room of Requirement and you can start upgrading your gear in terms of stats and Trait placements.

With the loom out of the way, you’ll need to find Traits in Hogwarts Legacy to start using them. Most of the defensive versions are tied to the enemy slaying challenges, and you can collect the reward from the menu. Nearly all of the offense-based Traits must be unlocked by raiding Bandit Camps and looting the final chest. Looting will automatically unlock the Trait for use at the loom.

Having everything unlocked still isn’t enough, though. Once you’ve found a gear piece you like and a Trait to go along with it, you’ll need to craft the piece in the loom. Most of these pieces only require a couple of materials like “two Kneazle Fur”, for example. To get these materials, your best bet is to go shopping at the beast shop in Hogsmeade or start collecting some beasts of your own in Hogwarts Legacy. Collecting materials in your own Vivarium is the best way to ensure you can continue crafting Traits.
