Time to save the President.

With the Phantom Liberty DLC finally upon us, Cyberpunk 2077 is ready to get much beefier and better. There’s a lot to love with new weapons, a whole host of new cyberware, and the new region of Dogtown to explore. First and foremost though, this is a new story, and how you start it can confuse some. Here’s how to start the Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077.

How to Access the Phantom Liberty Expansion in Cyberpunk 2077

Starting the Phantom Liberty DLC in Cyberpunk 2077 will be different depending on whether you’re starting a fresh character or already have one you want to play through it with. I’ve included both methods below, starting with the more likely option.

Starting Phantom Liberty on a Pre-Existing Character

To start Phantom Liberty on a pre-existing character, you’ll want to play through the main story until you’ve handled the Voodoo Boys in the main jobs ‘I Walk the Line’ and ‘Transmission.’ At some point afterward, you’ll receive a call from an unknown character. She’ll say she needs your help and that she knows you’re dying. She’ll ask you to head to the Dogtown border, initiating the first job of the questline, Dog Eat Dog.

Starting Phantom Liberty on a New Character

If you want to jump straight to the Phantom Liberty DLC on a new character, you can do that fairly easily. When starting a new character, you’ll be presented with two options; Regular Start and Skip Ahead to Phantom Liberty. I only suggest doing this if you’ve already played a fair bit of the main story since you’ll be missing out on a lot of crucial plot details by jumping ahead. Once you’re in, you should get the same result as before with a call from the unknown caller starting the Dog Eat Dog job.

Best of luck playing through the expansion! If you want to read some thoughts on the expansion before starting, check out our Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty review.
